What will be new in our new year?

I don't do resolutions. But I got to thinking about the new year that starts tomorrow.
What do I regret doing this past year? Will I repeat the same mistakes?
What will I do to try not to do the same stupid things all over again? Will I quit trying to pick up my phone off the floor while leaning over from the bed, thereby not falling on said floor?
Were there great choices that I look back on fondly? Last summer while my friend was home from Massachusetts, we spent several weeks going on three vacations (Myrtle Beach, SC, Nags Head, NC, and a weekend in Raleigh.)
She, my husband, and I laughed more than we have in a long time.
Next Christmas I do plan to cut back on our Christmas Eve feast. I over do it and miss a lot of the fun and conversations going on with the kids. They help, but there's only so much they can do and I really don't like a lot of people in my kitchen...it's easier and faster to do it myself.
There are some shortcuts I can take: Bob Evans mashed potatoes instead of my home made (I know, they're not quite as tasty as mine, but a good substitute.) One kind of stuffing instead of two. One kind of broccoli casserole instead of two, ham instead of ham and turkey. Pumpkin pies or chocolate pies, still need cheese cake, though, and chocolate mint squares.
Hopefully in the new year, we'll have our garage rebuilt and my daughter will heal from her hip surgery after the car accident.
I try to learn from the past whenever possible. Are there things you regret from 2018 that might be better this year?
Remember that with God, all things are possible.
Happy New Year, y'all!
The photo is of me with my aunt and uncle many years ago.

We had exactly the same saying in Italy, in fact I am avoiding annoying tasks today. I am sure that in the case of the garage it's an exception.

Have you ever heard the old saying that what you do on New Year's Day is what you will be doing the rest of the year? I sure hope it's not true! Because my husband is working on the garage repairs. A friend is helping...the adjuster came out and even though another adjuster has to come out for the final decisions, the first guy said we could start on a few repairs. Hope your new year will be the best one yet.

You are absolutely right. That's why if I'm still here next Christmas, I plan to have a nice meal, but spend less time on that and more time with my family.

No restaurants around here are open on Christmas Eve and most of our kids live too far away to bring dishes already cooked. But thanks for the suggestions! Happy New Year!

Sometimes good deeds are a good idea when you balance them with common sense.

I hope those will be good changes. The three of us were under a tree at my grandmother's house in the country.

@CarolDM Yeah, my aunt and I loved to make mud pies with the dirt and acorns under the tree. My uncle liked to play with marbles and heaven help us if we touched his can of marbles! I don't believe in ghosts, but there was one bedroom upstairs that always gave me a chill. Something about it. Another uncle often sat on the porch swing, playing his guitar and singing. Lots of good memories. My mother said that one time, I was probably about three, I was determined to walk down the lane towards the road (of course, she was watching me), but a chicken scared me back to the house!

Goals seem to be easier to reach sometimes than keeping resolutions.

@1creekgirl I don’t do resolutions either - it’s so depressing and discouraging when you break them on 2nd January.
I will try to put aside a bit more money for retirement which is in 5 years time. I will put more effort into becoming more proficient in Irish. I will be less rash about booking holidays (a particular weakness) and I will grow a lot more vegetables. That’s 2019 taken care of and I’m already exhausted thinking about it and it hasn’t even yet started.

Fiacre, you always make me laugh. But your intentions sound worthwhile, so best wishes!

Isn't it kind of funny that the older we get, our "wants" change a lot? Mine seem to be more centered on relationships than things as much. Happy New Year to you, dear friend.

I hope you will be, John, but I pray this new year will bring you much more than just one more year of life.
