Tasting Maple Syrups- Which Is The Best?

What is Your Favorite Syrup Brand? I'm partial to Log Cabin and Mrs. Butterworth's myself. Log Cabin is not overly sweet and I enjoy the butter flavor of Mrs. Butterworths. Log Cabin also has a nice rich thick consistency to it's syrup. But the surprise winner, (at least to me), in a taste test among popular brands conducted by Insider Magazine was Hungry Jack? It rated high in providing a syrup with thick consistency, in addition to a subtle sweet taste. So, which syrup occupies your breakfast table when it's time for french toast, waffles, and pancakes? And why do you like it so much? Source- Inside.com Photo-hungryjack.com

@marlina This is something I would like to know. Anyway this is the list of the ingredients of that syrup "Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Caramel Color, Sorbic Acid And Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate, Natural And Artificial Flavors." As you see no maple at all. Cheaters!

@marlina Exactly and if you read the label it's not marked "Maple Syrup", but "Original Syrup".

I do not know the brands that you mention. Here I only buy original Maple Syrup coming from Canada, it is expensive, but you feel the difference.

Hello Anna, Just curious, is your maple syrup from Quebec? I hope so, as it is the best.

@marlina I do not know, the label only says imported from Canada. I will ask the distributor.

I actually started using Log Cabin rice syrup... since most of this other stuff is not real MAPLE SYRUP anyway.. the rice syrup is healthier. It's all Natural, It's made from Brown Rice. This is the ingredient list BROWN RICE SYRUP, WATER, SUGAR, BROWN SUGAR. NATURAL FLAVOR, XANTHAN GUM. CITRIC ACID-- No high fructose corn syrup... It tastes very similar. .

@dgobucks226 yes, I have not had the opportunity to eat the real maple syrup often because of the price.

Yes, that is right! Most of the well-known brands in supermarkets are not pure maple syrups but the survey listed Hungry Jack among the best. Trader Joe's sells a real maple syrup which does not have an artificial maple taste.

Before my diet, it was Log Cabin. It's the brand I grew up with.

@dgobucks226 I don't use syrup anymore. I use unsweetened applesauce and it's delicious!

@just4him That is a great substitute and much healthier. Many recipes use applesauce as a substitute for sugar

Yes, Log Cabin was one of my favorite syrups also... I've recently tried store brand and Mrs. Butterworth's. Not so picky at least my taste buds aren't anymore, lol.

Nice review, but I actually am not a big syrup fan. I like the store brand pecan syrup though, sparingly

Yes, pancakes or waffles are a maybe once a month thing for me. I think most of the syrups bought in stores are pretty good even the store brand.

I very rarely eat waffles or pancakes. Just not my thing. But I do like to dollop some syrup on my breakfast sausage, links OR patties. But syrup is syrup to me. So I am not sure. I usually buy what's cheap and it might be in my refrigerator for two years before I ever use it up.

I see and agree that syrup on sausage is the best! I've found store bought is also satisfying enough for me these days...

This is my favorite of all. I use it on my waffles and pancakes, but usually the butter flavor. It has a rich flavor. Now, after saying that, Mrs. Butterworth's is hard to beat, but a little more pricey.

Mrs. Butterworths tested average in thickness, not as sweet as Aunt Jemima's and a buttery taste. Not sure if I ever tried Hungry Jacks? If it is on sale I've got to check it out!

@dgobucks226 It is not as thick as Butterworth's but still a great taste.
