SEA-VEGETABLES: Is It Yummy?

Most fishermen love to harvest sea-vegetables under the sea. Sea-vegetables refer to marine algae: red and brown. Personally, I am not fond of eating them. Another reason, they are not abundant in the mountain city of Baguio, Philippines. If they are available, it will definitely be pricey in the sea-vegetable market. "Do you like sea-vegetable?" I agree. It does look strange. I just ignore them if served as one of the ingredients in local dishes here.

@Acefun I do love grape-like seaweeds. It is one of the best things for the local people here.

@Shavkat Yes, it does like gross if it is served as fresh one. However, it is rich in iodine, a type of mineral that can avoid hyperthyroidism. It is a disease where people have swollen part around their neck. Some people will prefer to eat it that is being fried to become junk food with salty, sweet or spicy flavour.

@andriaperry I haven't seen one. I tried to find it on the Internet and was surprised seeing them in the online market. Do you know how to make it?

@Happy2BeMe you may have had it, at the Chinese restaurants, They have in the sushi bar the little sweet tiny bagget things filled with rice, topped with the candied seaweed and sprinkled with orange fish eggs. They are so good!

I like agar aka gulaman. I am also a fan of sushi wrappers. I never tried sea wead kelps on fresh grassy form. I tasted sea grapes before, they remind me of caviar.

I had tried them with Korean dishes. I love 'caulerpa lentillifera or sea grapes' with shredded green mangoes.

I don't think I've ever eaten sea-vegetables except perhaps in a fancy restaurant. I don't of anyone who harvests such things here.

I agree. I had tasted one of these algae in a restaurant with seafood ordered. They are more abundant in the countryside near the beaches here.

I do love them, too. Since I am working in a Korean academy. Most of their meals offer dried seaweeds together with the side dishes during lunchtime.

I've seen on Kara David's "Pinas Sarap" that people in Batanes eat "lumot". Their "lumot" though is clean unlike the rest of the country where the presence of "lumot" is a sign that the water is dirty. Their sea in Batanes is clean and clear and the people there take care of the environment.

I also heard good things about Batanes. If I have the chance, I wanted to taste this 'lumot.' Moreover, I do want to visit the Honesty Coffee Shop.
