Why Can't We...?

I suppose it is because the site wants to avoid spam. Maybe that is the reason, and I surely understand THAT. No one wants a ton of spam on any site, including this one.
But not everything that COULD be spam IS spam. So, why can't we post links to our own blogs or articles?
I posted the other day about spaghetti. It was a stand-alone post about spaghetti. It posed a question...about spaghetti and what type of sauce one might use. Homemade or jar?
I then posted a link to a spaghetti sauce recipe I posted to HubPages some time back. I did not think that was spam, and was simply wanting to share my recipe if anyone was interested.
I rarely question what MyLot deletes. I am usually on board with what admin decides, and even when my own posts get deleted I don't make much about it. It's their site. They can do what they want.
But why was THAT post considered wrong I wonder? If I would have posted a recipe from say, All Recipes' site that probably would have been okay. So why not MY recipe?
Just curious. Anyone have any ideas?

So far as I am aware, I don't think recipes (for whatever reason) are allowed here. I mean, I have never had a problem posting a "story recipe," but actually writing it like a recipe I believe is not allowed. Interestingly enough, so far as I am aware I can post someone else's recipe. Just not my own.

Theoretically I agree with you but we all know the moment they allow one (however appropriate and well done) there will be others that will be spammy. Then what can they say when people start hollering, "Oh but you let _______ do it, why can't I". Since it would make admin look really bad if they told those people they were idiots best to just not let anyone do it.
Truth isn't only good, it hurts.

That is strange. I often post links to the recipe that I am using in my "what's for dinner" posts but they aren't links to my blog or my recipe. . . they are always to the original author's blog or a newspaper's version of the recipe. I don't think any of them have been deleted.

i think the difference is 1. you give credit to whom/what site the recipe you used belongs to, (just like we link to a breaking news story when we want to write a post about it) and 2. it's not a self-serving link.
