A strange experience

This is a true story about the house where we lived before. One day I was home alone and I was using my laptop in the living room. I suddenly heard that the light in the basement was turned on. It was a very old light switch and it made a loud clicking sound when we turned it on and off. A few seconds later I heard steps on the basement stairs. My husband always used the front door, so I knew it wasn't him. My first thought was that a burglar had entered the house via the basement door. I got very scared and I didn't know what to do. No one opened the basement door. I waited for a long time, but nothing happened. I finally opened the door myself and no one was there. I went to the basement, the door was still locked and no one had touched the windows either. I checked every room, but I found nothing at all. I never found out what happened that day. We lived there for 4 years and it only happened once. What do you think?

I'm not an expert in ghost stuff. But I'm sure that many members can suggest something.

Yes, I think that some members know more about those things than I do. I don't live in that house anymore, but I still remember the experience very clearly.

I do not call them "ghosts" but "presence". Someone visited. I hear foot steps on our stairs sometimes during the night, always and only during summer. I know that no one (except my husband) is in our house. Soon before Christmas I have seen a light looking down into the basement. I went down to check if we forgot a light on, but a sort of blue light in the middle of the room faded into the air. I am not scared... not for the moment.

When I heard footsteps in our house I also knew that I was alone in the house. It couldn't have been my husband because he didn't use the basement door. I wonder why you only hear footsteps in the summer. I have never seen something like the blue light you described. I had an experience in an apartment in Italy, but I didn't see anything. I only heard sounds.

@LadyDuck That experience would have scared me, too. I read some stories on Reddit. There is a subreddit called "Glitch in the matrix" where people describe experiences like the one you described. I remember one story about a wallet. I man saw that his wallet was lying on the table and at the same time he had his wallet in his pocket. The wallets were completely alike. After some time the wallet on the table disappeared, but for a short time there were two copies of the same wallet.

@Porcospino The only time I got scared was an early morning (always in summer). A little light came inside from the windows, I turned my head and I saw my husband in the bed, who was stretching his arms. I thought to wait to get up as he was still in bed, when I saw him coming inside from the door. He had gone to the bathroom and he was coming back. Who was the man in my bed???

Thank goodness you don't live there anymore. I bought a little cottage in 1991 and I sold it in 2005. It used to be part of a Victorian workhouse. The whole place was a square of buildings and a chapel was in the middle made into two small homes. My cottage had a front garden and at the back was a view down a pleasant close. My cottage used to the men's area at the work house. I had also looked at number 9 and at that time babies cribs were hung on the wall. I don't know about ghosts.

@Porcospino I often think back to the time I lived in the cottage I used to live in. It is amazing how some buildings are changed into something else like the home of your friend that used to be a church. I can imagine how high the ceiling is and the large windows must be delightful. It was a place for the poor in Victorian England and now rich people live there. Someone that lived opposite bought my cottage for their property portfolio. I found it hard to sell because it is grade 2 listed. I wasn't able to get new doors or windows. If I did it would have to look exactly the same as the original. Also I wasn't allowed to hang washing outside. It had a monthly fee for grounds work and buildings insurance. It had one parking space although in those days I didn't have a car.

@maximax8 You wrote that it was hard to sell it because it is grade 2 listed, what does grade 2 mean? Yes, it is amazing to see how some buildings are changed into something else. My friend loves her apartment in the old church. She is an artist and the large windows are very useful when she works on her drawings.

It was interesting to read about the history of the cottage where you used to live. Some old houses were built as something else and converted into homes later. It is interesting to learn about the history of an old house. One of my friend lives in a house that used to be church. It was converted into apartments several years ago, and many changes have been made, but the apartments still have really large vindows and high ceilings.

Old houses make noises and it only happening once that would be my guess. When you heard the first sound you got hyper sensitive and that made other noises seem louder.

There were definitely a lot of noises in that house. The basement was very old, I don't think that there had been many changes since the house was built.

Maybe a long-time resident wanted his presence felt! I don't know, maybe you can ask those who are experts on this field of paranormal things.

It is a very old house, and I was thinking it is could be a paranormal experience related to one of the previous owners, but I don't know of course. It only happened once.

It was very creepy, and it was even more creepy because I was alone in the house. I didn't want to open the basement door, but I finally did it

@Nevena83 If my husband had been home I would have asked him to check the basement. I was not happy to go the basement alone. The basement was always a bit creepy, it was very old and the rooms were dark Fortunately we don't have a basement in our current home.

It was an old house (100 years old) and I don't really know much about the story of the house, but I think it is possible that sometimes happened there in the past.
