Since last Tuesday was New Year's Day, we moved our meeting to tonight. Every month we have a 100-word story challenge taken from three words chosen from the Word Teaser's box I picked up at the museum last April during Untitledtown - a book and author fair. In the past few months, I've given you my assignment for the month. Here is this month's offering. Raconteur – meaning – to tell Extraordinaire – meaning – extraordinary Hubris – meaning – extreme haughtiness or arrogance Pull up a chair as I raconteur on one of my many adventures extraordinaire. Will I tell you a tale of bounding seas? Will we make our way through sandy deserts, or ride on the backs of dinosaurs? You might find yourself riding the air currents in a balloon, or gazing at the earth from the moon. There’s so much to see and do in the world of our imaginations. There’s no time for hubris as we partake of the world and universe together from the comfort of home. It’s all true you see in the world of my imagination. Thanks for reading.

I think that hubris also impies that ones arrogance will untimately lead to their destruction. I'd better check on that.

@andriaperry My definition, or the implication of destruction due to arrogance, apparently comes from Greek mythology. Check Achilles's Heel.

Thank you. Unfortunately, there wasn't time for anybody's paragraphs. Though I did get to read a chapter from A Score to Settle and got excellent feedback on it.

I think that the word Hubris comes from the Greek hybris, it consists in doing and saying things that cause shame to the victim.

@LadyDuck I just brought the word Hubris up on Dictionary dot com and it's the same as what the card gave me.

I thought 'raconteur' was a noun, not a verb. It's the person who tells the stories, not the act of telling them, isn't it?

@boiboing I only wrote down the definition as given on the card. This is the definition from Dictionary.com -- a person who is skilled in relating stories and anecdotes interestingly.

@NJChicaa I looked up the definition from Dictionary.com and this is what it said: a person who is skilled in relating stories and anecdotes interestingly.

That was Tuesday night. We didn't have time for the paragraphs. It was a busy night. Maybe next month we'll have time. No one even drew words for next month, that's how busy we were.

It turned out there wasn't time for the paragraphs at the meeting. Maybe next time. It was a good meeting and I did read a chapter from a book I'm editing.
