How to build a sandcastle

I'm sure that most of us have had a go at building a sandcastle and I'm equally sure that most of those who did had about as much luck as I did when I was a kid - which was none. All my sandcastles collapsed shortly after being completed.
Most people don't think too much about what goes into making a good, sturdy sandcastle - just dig up some wet sand and start building but did you know that scientists have actually studied the physics of sandcastle construction?
It turns out that the best ratio is one part water to eight parts sand and that's by volume, not weight.
To do this successfully you need a bucket to hold the mix and another smaller container such as a one-litre jug with which to measure the proportions of the ingredients.
This formula is what helps professional sandcastle builders or sculptors (yes, there are such people) to build those huge sand structures which can often be seen on popular beaches worldwide.
So next time you're at the beach with your kids or grandkids have a go at making a sandcastle using this method and see how well it turns out.
What’s the secret to building a majestic sandcastle that will withstand the tide of time? Luckily, there’s a scientific formula for that.

I love the things these people can create, I have never tried to build one because I have never been near a beach but, we used to have a festival in CO when I lived there and they brought the builders in there to build sand castles. They were awesome and so many different kinds.

@ThreeTeddies I lived in Colorado most of my life and moved to Texas (North end) last year. Closest beach to me here is 6 hrs away.

Although I am amazed at what some people can do with sand, I think there´s nothing better and more rewarding than the family sandcastles that last a little while but are done by a whole family playing together. I had lots of fun applauding what Sofía was doing a couple of weeks ago. And felt proud that I had spent a little more money for the game: it had several ways of making small towers that a smaller brat nearby destroyed.

It's great fun for kids but there's always some jealous person who spoils it
