Before I dump the trash last week, I was it was torn. And then I saw the dogs stool that has maggots in it and their mouths smelled like one too
I panicked and had them de-wormed immediately. So far they are alright. Then I research it turns out they are harmless to them, except unless they ate what the maggots ate, which is their own stool
.
From then on I make sure that the trash is kept away from them and would purchase a third trashcan.
Have a nice day

@Letranknight2015 Losing your previous puppies would make you even more anxious this time around.

Oh boy good thing nothing bad happened to your puppies. I think dogs have a very strong stomach and can digest many foods that we humans cannot. But they also have their weaknesses like chocolates which is poisonous to them and not to us. So I guess your curious little puppies will be more choosy in what to much and what not to much on.

Hello @rsa101 I have never feed them chocolates since they were adopted. THough Grandpa used to feed some of her coffee bread to the eldest one, that's not the case anymore either. This time none of them are choosy.

If the dogs have worms I don't think it's from eating the maggots. A lot of puppies are born with worms and have to be dewormed so looks like you just found yours do have worms. I did see a dog I had many years ago ate maggots once and I was so worried. I called the vet and he said it's fine it's basically just protein

Hello @shaggin This was the first time I've de wormed the female pup and she released worms for the first time. Well, it's good if it's protein.

@Letranknight2015 it's so gross but at least you know if they did eat the maggots it won't hurt them. Worms can make them very sick so it's good to worm them on a schedule. I need to keep mine dewormed more as well. She is over a year and I have only done it twice.

@shaggin Only twice? wow. Some states it should be every three months, but I'm not sure.

Hello @jstory07 It was gross to us but the dogs just did it out of instinct.

It is good to keep your dog's dwelling place always clean for their protection.
