I should look this up to know more details but I saw the Super "Wolf Moon" last night after many times of missing so many celestial shows! And it's not because I haven't looked or tried.
It's always ben because the sky was cloudy that particular night. I missed every meteor show or notable moon there ever was in the Northern Hemisphere. But not last night.
The spectacle was not just the Super Wolf Moon but also turned out to be a Total Lunar Eclipse.
I heard on the news that a "Wolf" Moon is any full moon in January. It was named this by Indigenous peoples from folk lore. Apparently because the wolves would howl at this moon.
Anyway I did see the Super Moon and then at around 11:00 I started to watch the lunar eclipse. It was kind of a spooky sight in the dark of the night but I kept going out onto the balcony in freezing temperatures to see it. I only stayed out a few minutes at a time in that extreme cold. But I was glad I didn't miss this one.
Did anyone else see this January eclipse of a Super Wolf Moon?

Ha now that sounds like me. However, the big full moon was visible for quite a while afterward.

@MarymargII We saw the "Blood Moon" (super moon) and the total eclipse the early morning of January 21st. Here it was visible from 4:30 am up to 8:30 am.

@LadyDuck Well that makes sense as I saw the eclipse starting around 11 pm and watched it progress so your time would match around this- So happy I finally got to see it as the weather was cold and clear.Have you seen many other moon or star occurences?

Well it was very high up in the sky so it seemed small but at least the skies were clear.

Yes I'm sure you did as the skies would be much clearer in the South.

I seemed to always get really cloudy weather every time one is happening. So this was good!

So glad you were able to see such a terrific sight! I have the same problem you mentioned regarding meteor showers, lunar/solar eclipses etcetera. It seems where I am located is not always the best for viewing these events or the weather does not cooperate (cloudy). They just had one called a super snow moon. Of course, I missed it, lol.

Yes, we need constantly clear weather to view all these things. But it was a neat sight that night for sure.

I probably only saw one other many years ago so this was nice but it seemed very high in the sky. . I suppose another location would have gotten a closer view.
