Because I made it myself

We had a yummy pear cobbler last night. Because I made it myself I knew what went in it.
It had real butter, fresh pears, and only a little sweetener on the fruit and in the batter as well.
I used a blend of spices that I made up for most baked goods. It has cinnamon and ginger and other seasonings as well.
I put vanilla in the batter I poured over the top. Great flavor.
We may consider having some for breakfast, with homemade yogurt on top.
Because I made it myself it is flavorful and it is healthier than what we buy in freezer cases at the store.

I know some of it is not in your eating plan. Carbs and gluten are out for you, right?

@just4him I found a "nut flour" that I use sometimes for stuff. I am not gluten sensitive but really need to watch my carbs.

@GardenGerty It seems that way. I don't buy frozen foods except baby peas.

I used to have a recipe for a pear crumble that used ginger snaps in the crust. That was delicious.

@GardenGerty oh no did you lose the recipe? Thanks is a big worry of mine that something will happen and I will loose all my recipes. I only save on index cards the ones I really like and being a picky eater and trying thousands of recipes over the past 15 years or more I do not want anything to happen to those recipes. My memory is bad and I can't cook any of them from memory. I always have to get the index card out no matter how many times I have made something.

@shaggin It was on a box or label. I have never gotten sorted through everything. I imagine if I were to look it up on the Libby's site it would be there.

I used bisquick, mixed with milk, eggs, sweetener and vanilla. You can just make a pancake batter, make it a little thick and sweeten to taste.

Cobblers can have various types of crust or topping. Mine was a batter but I have had them with rolled pie crust on top or even biscuit dough. Biscuit in the US is different from UK. Theirs is like our cookie. US biscuit is a bread made with leavening instead of yeast, often cut into rounds.

I made a pear crisp a few nights ago (easier for me than a cobbler). It didn't make it until the end of dinner!

You have more mouths to feed than I do. I had a recipe from Libby's that used canned pears and ginger snaps in the crisp topping. That was very good.

I have found that making the occasional sweet at home has caused me to easily avoid the store stuff. Wish I had learned that when I was younger.

@GardenGerty And from scratch is probably better anyway, both in terms of taste and health value.

Healthy is the last word I use to describe my cobblers, LOL. But I know what you are talking about, no preservatives and additives with names we cannot pronounce.
