really liking this haircut

My hair could use a trim and I've been thinking about what I want to do. The last time I got one, I went to a higher end salon (discounted with a Groupon), took in a picture, and told the stylist what I wanted. She ended up giving me something else entirely. It seemed like she understood what I wanted, but she had me turned away from the mirror most of the time and gave me the cut that I think she gives most women my age (an a-line bob and stacked in the back). She even tried to give me bangs and I had to stop her. I had to leave quickly after she finished cutting and highlighting my hair, so I didn't have time for her to correct it.
What I really want is something more like this. My hair is wavy, so it wouldn't lay the same way, but the cut itself would work. It would be short enough that it would be low maintenance and easy to care for, but the top would be long enough that my hair could have some flow and movement.
Maybe I should take this picture to a Supercuts and cross my fingers. The kids seem to have good luck getting the haircuts they ask for when they go there.

I just wish the picture wasn't so dark. I've been trying to find a well-lit picture of this character and I haven't had a lot of luck.

I had the same exact experience with a beautician. I told her, I had my hair stacked in the back and I didn't want it that way. She looked at me sorta puzzled, looked at the picture I brought and said, 'OK, I know what you want.' With my back to the mirror, she stacked the back of my hair!!! I refuse to go to her, ever again:(

Yeah, I don't know why they ignore what we ask for.

@spiderdust I mean, it's not like they aren't getting paid well! Just to touch up my roots, is $40 at a beauty salon:(

@kobesbuddy Yeah, it's expensive to go to a salon!
I think the shorter cut will grow in well too. This is how it looks on her when she's not playing that character and it has grown out a bit. I think I'd still brush it back instead of wearing it as bangs, but that's just because I prefer it that way.

The only person that cuts my hair is a cousin who is a stylist but lives in another town. So that when my hair is a mess, I pack a suitcase, add a couple of presents and go to see my aunt. The last time I went, a long time had gone by and I was looking like a witch. So I discovered a movie star on TV (a lot younger than myself) who had a haircut I liked. I went to see my cousin and asked her if there was any way to look like her. She made a wonderful job out of my hair but did not take away my wrinkles

I figure I'm safe with not worrying about if this haircut will make me look young... the actress is more than 20 years older than me!

You definitely made it CLEAR on the style you wanted... You have to wonder why she had you turn away from the mirror... hmmm

Yeah, that made me suspicious too. I wish I had more time that day, I would have made her fix it, but I had to pick up kids from school and she had already taken 2 hours!

Its a nice cut.
I would bring a picture or have it on your phone when you go in and specially ask if there is someone who can do that cut for you.
I just went for an appointment today, my girl does my high and low lights to my requests, and then when its time for the cut, I tell her to do what she'd like. She knows me well enough to know what I can handle and what I can reproduce each morning in my own mirror.

I just realized it's essentially an undercut, which is popular with a lot of men right now. Maybe I would have better luck with a barber.

@spiderdust These fellas don't go to a barber, usually they go to a stylist.

I never get the cut I want when I go to a hairstylist. I always leave feeling disappointed.

If the salon didn't do my hair the way I wanted, they never saw me again, which was the case for three salons before I found the one I've been going to for the past 20+ years. When I want a change, Paula considers the style I point out to her, looks at my head, and then sets to work making it the way I want it. I've always been happy with the results.

My mother likes her hair really short. She went to a Great Clips one time and hated the haircut. It was really, really short. Now she just cuts her hair herself. I only get a haircut in the spring. I get mine a little above my shoulders. I go to my cousin's best friend.

That's terrible the person you went to last didnt listen to what you wanted. My hairdresser has done that. When ive wanted to cut my hair 6inches or so, as she likes it long so wont do it. Ugh.
Goodluck wherever you go next.

No way would I go back, I did not get what I wanted the first time. I like that cut but my hair is so curly I would look like a poodle!

Yeah, my hair is almost as curly as yours and likes to do its own thing. I don't mind having eccentric hair though, and I think this cut will still work even if the top goes wild.
