When we were your age, we never did this..

This is one statement which I guess every generation says to the next generation. My parents and aunts told me," When we were of your age we always did what our parents told us to do." I am sure our grand parents also said the same to our parents.. Nowadays, we tell our nephews and nieces, we were never so casual about stuff the way you are. We were not so careless about money and I genuinely feel so. Now children get such expensive gifts from parents on occasions such as birthdays. My niece got a new mobile, something which we prize till date. But my dad always told me, we were not given new gifts every year on our birthdays the way you get. We were happy eating good food. Nowadays school children are also very casual about their relations. I mean boy friends and girl friends. During our time, people thought before proceeding. Now it is a time pass for kids. During my parents time, I was told they only dated those whom they thought, they would definitely marry. How many of you have been told the same by others? How many of you have told this to your next generation and about what?

My parents had a difficult childhood, I had a similar, but my child did not, at least as far as money and gifts are concerned. Although I'm not sure how much I did the right thing.

All parents are right in their own way. No one knowingly does something wrong. I am sure you have done your best..

@Sheali I'm not sure. I think that they are smarter parents who first think about themselves and then on the child.

Things seem to be getting farther and farther away from our grandparents teachings!!! After a certain time we sound like our parents!! Eventually we are learning we need to return to those old ways and traditions!!!

Yes, i noticed that the birthday gifts to their children by the rich parents are gadgets. They didn't envision that these gadgets will make their children far from them because it means they won't be physically speaking to each other anymore. Sad but it's true.

That is so true. Healthy communication between parents and children is very important.

The more we indulge our children the more we find values and morals sliding away. Materialism has its say on each generation. I agree that we repeat these statements but it is so true. Well think again , who is responsible - they same people who complain.

I agree.. I some times feel like saying these things to my cousins but they are at least 12 years elder to me so I feel they might feel offended..

@Sheali Yeah people are quick to take offense if you point out their mistakes, thankfully I am in a position to give it to them when they come .

I think it is the change which every generation are afraid of. The technology was different 20years back. Access was limited. Every generation complains about things which they did not witness in their times.

@Sheali Yeah I've heard my Nan say quite often how things were when she was little. And I do agree that things were tough and different. But I still stand by what I believe that the world is still tough now. Things may be different but things are still tough now for different reasons.
