Day 18
Acts 10:24
Acts 10:24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the seaside: who, when he comes, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him.
You all have reasons why you do things. You all want to be accepted by the people you associate with, even when your culture suggests otherwise.
Cornelius summoned Peter to his home for one reason, to hear about Jesus. When Peter entered his home, he set aside the cultural ways he grew up with and the laws forbidding he enter a foreigner’s home and asked Cornelius why he sent for him. When Cornelius told him, Peter realized God was no respecter of persons, but the gospel was for everyone.
As Christians, you are called by God to go and do, and not necessarily where you live and work. You might be called to go to other countries to spread the message of God’s love and the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ so those you minister to will have the opportunity to receive salvation.
Today, you have many means at your disposal to go and spread the good news of salvation. You can apply to a mission board and prepare for the mission field and physically go to another country where the gospel hasn’t been heard. You can go into your schools and workplaces. You can use the Internet. Everyone is called and God will provide the means for you to go.
Peter didn’t leave Judea when Cornelius sent for him. Cornelius lived and worked in Judea, a Roman centurion who believed in God and wanted to know more about Him. God prepared Peter before he went by casting aside the cultural differences.
God calls you. God prepares you. God provides everything you need to do His will.
Peter had a willing and receptive audience who wanted to know everything about Jesus, and Peter prepared to tell them the story of salvation.
Are you receptive to the call God placed on your life?
Let’s pray: Father, let me be receptive to the call You have on my life to go to the nations and preach Your Word. Let those who hear the message of salvation be receptive to what You put in my mouth to speak to them. Let Your message come through to their hearts and bring salvation to those hungry for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
