The Last Cold Day

I woke up at 6 this morning, well a little before. I was watching the weather at 6. It was -39 at that time, wind chill. The regular temp was -20. Schools are still closed. The mail is still not delivering. Most businesses are closed. Traffic is almost non-existent. I looked at an article someone here posted about the number of people who died from this Arctic Vortex we're in and saw a photo of the wind chills covering several states. St that time, it was only a couple hours ago, several hours since my forecast, and showed Green Bay with a wind chill -41. Yes, it's cold out there.
I had sent an e-mail to my pool friend. She sent one back and told me that when the schools are closed, so is the Y. I'm hoping to be back in the pool tomorrow. It's been a long time since I was at the pool, not since last week Monday.
Now for the unbelievable news. As cold as it's been over the past week, it feels like spring wants in on the action here. We're rising to 44 F on Sunday. Notice there isn't a negative sign in front of that number. On Monday we have a rain/snow mix and a temp of 47 F. Unreal. Then we go back to normal winter temps the next day at 23.
It seems Mother Nature is having a good laugh at our expense. I'm not laughing. Those unreal temps mean my snow will melt. Maybe not all of it, but perhaps half. I'm not looking forward to the melting snow. On the bright side, it won't take long to warm up the car on Sunday for church.
How are you handling this cold weather if you are in the path of this cold snap? Aren't you glad you're not if you're anywhere but in the path of this cold snap?
Thanks for reading.
I just snapped a picture of conditions and hit the perfect time. It's starting to warm up. We're up to -31.

Mother Nature sure is having a good time. I will have a high of 44 with clear skies and sun today.

so thankful that there's'n end'n sight to that front. there's no tellin' how many more folks 'n critters're gonna perish due to such. we've 'd odd weather here all winter. 70's one day, front comes through 'n we lose 40-50 degrees'n less'n 24 hrs 'n then such bounces right back to near our norms. managed to get a couple'f light snows that 'twere thankfully wet'uns 's we're still battlin' drought. i've great hopes the snows continue'n the mountains 'f northern colorado 'n down this way. if'n not, 'tis gonna be 'nother crispy spring/summer.

I fully understand not liking the cold. I stay home, but the cold comes up through the floors and you can really feel it in our kitchen.

I am glad to see it warm up this weekend. Hoping all of our snow will go away. And the ice under it from the last short warm up.

@just4him We have ice from the last melt under the snow. I just watch where I walk right now. Glad you will get more snow soon.

I hope you won't have ice from the melting. They're predicting icy roads with the melt tomorrow. I only hope it doesn't all melt, but we do have more snow on the way to make up for any snow melt.

@wolfgirl569 The only thing I'm worried about, and I always worry before the fact, is the icy roads tomorrow on the way to church. My tires spin on ice. Either that or I end up doing a 180. The only time that happened, last winter, was on a roundabout. I couldn't go in the direction I intended and ended up in a 180 spin. I was on the way to church.

Our schools are closed for the third day in a row and I haven't even thought about venturing outside. Even our dogs don't want to be outside very long.

Nothing wants to be outside for long in that kind of weather. I'm glad it finally broke and we're seeing more normal temps this weekend, though they are a might on the warm side for winter.

When we are in that cold snap also, last night was -14 so that was a heat wave compared to the night before when it was -33, by this weekend it's supposed to be very nice and then winter starts again after that.

I know, right? I'm happy for the warm up tomorrow, but it's very confusing. At least anything above 0 will feel nice

I can't imagine how cold that is....we've got negative temps before but never that bad! We've had a nice week in the low 40's mostly. That'll be a big difference there when it's in the 40's.
