This is the priest at the Shrine of the Holy Sacrifice in Diliman. He delivers the clearest explanation of the Gospel in a most theological way that is pertinent to our times. This Sunday, he recalls to mind the humor-clad Cardinal Sin, Pope John Paul II's partner in crime in the Vatican. Ha ha. Cardinal Sin narrated the story of a variety store owner who, every night, shouted to her househelp: Pepang, have you added water to the vinegar jar? Reply is in the affirmative: Opo. Have you added corn grains to the rice? Opo. Have you tilted the weighing scale? Opo. Okay, close up the store. We will pray the Rosary now. We humans are very much that. We believe we are good, but the moment there is road altercation, we are ready to lambast our neighbor. We are always right, the other wrong. All for what? A car. A status symbol. St. Luke vividly gave a vibrant description of what transpired in the synagogue when our Lord Jesus proclaimed the fulfillment of the Messiah. The people were attracted to Jesus. He was Lord and Teacher and Healer and Master. Yet, someone asked, "Is He not the Son of Joseph, the carpenter?" Without hesitation, they violently dragged Him out, and intended to throw Him off the cliff, Head first. But Jesus walked in their midst and went away. Come on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Holy Sacrifice. It is a people's church, meaning folks from all walks of life sit side by side. You might just have the blessing of this kind priest whose gift of gab is used solely for bringing the Good News to our hearts, eloquently and perfectly.
