Twenty-Peso Tip for your service.

I understand that in foreign lands, gassing up one's fuel tank is a personal task. Hmmm, in my country, the driver of a vehicle is a fief. All he has to do is to pull open the gas tank cover and wella, sit back and relax. A gas boy offers you full service, from filling the fuel, replenishing water, checking oil, and adding air to the tires. Plus, wiping the wind shields. And back shields. Sometimes, they offer you pricey matchboxes for your collection. I asked the gas boy if he gets commission for sales. Nope. Nada., But it is protocol for them to offer the toy cars. Petrol magnates are users. They use little people to do the selling for them, while they sit back business class in some jumbo jets and gallivant the world. In the mean time, the over worked gas boys sweat it out hours on end. Whenever I gas up and avail of other services, I usually give a twenty-peso bill tip. Believe me, this very little money brings a smile in their faces ear to ear. But you know what? What can twenty pesos give them, just a cup of coffee and two or three pieces of pan for snacks. Time to give more.

I pick chats with them sometimes, whenever I have the luxury of time. Most of them work for the welfare of their families, some saving for their education. What they don't understand is why I'd like to know them. They say that it is not in the nature of drivers, except the public utility transport like taxi, to talk to them. I tell them that we are just the same, both humans who wake up each morning and live another beautiful day. Thank you, Laurel.

@Happy2BeMe Thank you, Laurel. I am sure there are many people who keep watch over others, too, but they are mum about it. I think I am the only one who broadcasts my activities to the world. My friends think of me eccentric but honestly, I love talking to people.

I give a twenty pesos tip to the gas boy when I request him to check the air pressure of my tires. Tipping gasoline boys who fill you gas tank is not common in our place.

Yup, it is not common to give tips for fueling, but I'd tip just the same. I also tip the parking boy, or the grocery bagger who helps in carrying the goods. Watching the smiles on their faces when they receive the tip fills me with joy.
