What is this?

Sometimes we find the strangest things while cleaning. I found this gem somewhere in my house. I don't know what it is or how it got there.
Can you give me an idea of what it is and what it is used for? Where do you think it came from? I think it is about 8 inches tall and the big part spins around if you push it.

@Aquitaine24 I wonder the same thing. I just don't have a clue. It is my mystery object.

Wow who knows really? Someone must know if it was in your house- looks a little ancient actually.

@MarymargII By collectors, I mean junk collectors. It is stuff that is not useful in your present life.

@akalinus It will be interesting then to find out what it is. If they were collectors it could be anything---lol!

I see no image here. I will refresh to see if it shows up. I will help you if I can.

@akalinus I see it. I have two possibilities, both of which I am probably wrong about.
1) It's upside down and is actually a candle holder. That doesn't seem possible because the rounded part at the top would not allow it to set upright.
2) It is the handle off of something.
Oh, or...
3) It is a yard / garden stake of some kind.
Where did you find it?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think it was in a drawer. You could not stand it on the other end so don't think it is a candle holder.

@Happy2BeMe You stated my dilemma to a tee. You are so right. If I toss it, I will need it, can't live without it.

@akalinus I'd keep it because it seems as soon as you throw something away you need. What you will need it for I have no idea but you never know.

I'm sorry I have absolutely no idea what that could be. I rattled my brain trying to come up with it but nope...clueless.

Hmmm... you say that half circle at the top spins around? Does that section at the bottom twist?
To me it looks like part of a treadle for an old fashioned sewing machine.

@akalinus I thought it should! I am almost positive it is part of a treadle! I'm not sure that it belongs on a sewing machine, though. There are several machines that ran using treadle. It could belong to any of them.

I've never seen anything like it. I hope you find out what it is.

A mystery! Is it some kind of knick knack thingie . . . or a hat stand?
It's a thingie with no name (at the moment). But I'll bet as soon as you get rid of it, you'll find out what it "was"
.
