How do you match shoes, belts and socks? / myLot

Are there any rules for Color of shoes, socks and belts. This is mainly for men. For women how are the shoes supposed to match? This is more for formal wear. Are there any rules or are you like me - just wear whatever you lay your hands on!!

shoes- comfortable? no get another pair yes wear them. socks- clean? no find a clean pair or wear none. yes wear them. belt- pants falling? no dont use a belt. yes put a belt on. those are my rules.

I don't really know and I guess it depends on fashion a bit but if it's formal wear, I 'd be looking for dark socks with black shoes and I guess a black belt. If you wear a coloured shirt (say, blue) then maybe the tie needs to be shades of blue too or at least colours that don't clash.
