. . . you might want to visit this ancient Scottish castle. Eilean Donan goes back to the 13th century and has an interesting history involving Clan uprisings, revolution and revolt. At one point in its history it was destroyed by bombardment from three Royal Navy warships. Situated on the rugged west coast of Scotland it is actually very easy to get to - a major road passes close to it. If you are touring Scotland this historic castle is a must-see on your visit.

As an Australian, I find there have been so many uprisings, revolts, wars, etc in the history of Europe. It's a wonder anything is still standing.

@JohnRoberts Yes, that would be a big one - and a few skirmishes from time to time on the goldfields but nothing to compare to the rest of the world.

Your country has a calm history of no civil wars and little strife. The only incident coming to mind was the Eureka stockade,

@LadyDuck In recent years, due probably to climate change, the best weather has been in April-May and again in October-September. The height of the tourist season (July-August) is also the height of the midge season and you don't know what they are read this!

@JohnRoberts It looks great but all of these old castles were cold, draughty places. I'd rather stay in my own warm and comfortable semi!
