Day 27
Acts 15:36-41
Acts 15:36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
Breakups occur in every area of life from the home to the church. Companies dissolve, countries merge or break into two separate countries. In personal lives, relationships break apart. However, life continues to expand and grow.
Paul determined to make another journey to the churches planted in various cities throughout the known world. Yet, when Barnabas wanted to take Mark with them, Paul declined, and the partnership dissolved and they went separately to the work, each with a different companion. Paul with Silas and Barnabas with Mark.
Nothing more is heard from Barnabas in Scripture. However, Paul continued the work God called him to do.
As Christians, you need to be aware of the strife created from seemingly small arguments. It can change the canvas of what God intended for you. Don’t let strife and disputes break your relationships. Let wisdom and the Holy Spirit guide you in the decisions you make, and you will be effective in the work God called you.
Let’s pray: Father, guide me in each decision I make. Heal the disputes and let Your work proceed as it should. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
