The Horse's new invention!

Because I have sourdough bread here, and I like salads, I tried something new the other day. I made some toast, cut it into small pieces, and put it on my salad, atop romaine lettuce and along side of blueberries. Of course I topped with blue cheese dressing. It was delicious! The crunchy toast contrasted in consistency with the other ingregients, and imparted a nutty flavor. What do you think I should call my new culinary invention? For some reason, the word "crouton" comes to mind. Should I patent it?

I've been coating my lettuce as in a Caesar salad lately. I like the effect. Croutons it is! I'll contact the patent office this afternoon. Wait...

@TheHorse I honestly do not know who invented croutons and when. I only know that the name comes from French croûton, that is a diminutive of croûte, meaning crust.

It looks good. I love to make a cheeseburger salad with the buns cut up into cubes.

What a great name. Unfortunately, some of the restaurants in town have stolen your invention and probably did not pay you.

Salad Toast . It's a short cut way of making croutons (vs the oil, herbs, baking it in the oven) . . . I like that!
