I need YOUR ideas, suggestions, experiences, help, etc.

I've been spoiled for 20 years! I have been getting cable TV consisting of 67 stations, including Showtime and HBO. The price started at $30 and has now gone up to $45 which I know is still a great deal BUT we were just hit that the owners here only want Comcast to provide us with cable. We are supposed to be getting a 'deal' from Comcast but it will be nowhere near the price we are paying now plus Showtime & HMO will cost 'extra'. I have been thinking of the alternatives such as getting an indoor antenna but that mean not getting the stations I want. I could go with Comcast but I don't think they will come up with an attractive (cheap) deal. The main thing I am thinking of doing is get a smart TV and subscribing to Netflix and/or Hulu and/or the other streaming services BUT I know nothing about them. Do I get local stations? Will I get HBO & Showtime? Do I have to get a few services? What do they cost? And on and on. I am going to do a lot of research during the next 2 weeks--that's how much longer we will have our current cable company--but I was thinking that you could give me different suggestions, ideas, advice and I would have a better idea of what to expect, what the various ideas would cost, what you like or don't like about streaming and, possibly, suggest a smart TV to get, OR I could just go back to what I use to do and loved to do--READ BOOKS! :O)
