Day 34 Acts 18:17 Acts 18:17 Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things. 18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. 19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; 21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that comes in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus. 22 And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch. 23 And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples. Have you ever been on a mission? You knew you needed to get something completed in a set time and nothing would stand in your way until you completed it. Paul was on a mission, not only to preach the Word of God everywhere he went, but he needed to get to Jerusalem in time for one of the feasts. He had also made a vow to the Lord, and needed to pay that vow in Jerusalem at the feast. After he did, he once again returned to his work of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere he went. As Christians, you need to pay attention to your commitments to God. God does not take vows lightly, but expects you to keep your vows. Numbers 30:1 And Moses spoke unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded. 2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. When you make a promise to do something for someone, it is a vow, and you are to keep your promise. Never make a promise if there is a chance you will be unable to fulfill your promise. Too many people say they will do something for someone, and then never fulfill what they agreed to do. You are to be men and women of integrity. God fulfilled every vow He made to His people. You are to do the same. If you can’t keep your promises, people will know you as untrustworthy and won’t ask you to do anything for them. Paul kept his vow to God, and people knew him as a man of God, able to keep his oaths and promises. Let’s pray: Father, help me keep the promises I made to You. Help me serve You in gladness and joy as I bring Your message of salvation to the people. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 14 February 2019 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Welcome be the Word of God with the Truth that feeds our lives. This is certainly true: Put your feet down with care when you go to the house of God, for it is better to give ear than to make the burned offerings of the foolish, whose knowledge is only of doing evil. Be not unwise with your mouth, and let not your heart be quick to say anything before God, because God is in heaven and you are on the earth--so let not the number of your words be great...When you take an oath before God, put it quickly into effect, because he has no pleasure in the foolish; keep the oath you have taken. It is better not to take an oath than to take an oath and not keep it. (Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 y 4-5)

Thank you for the additional scripture backing up our need to keep the oaths we make. Have a blessed day.
