'They' might not put it in those terms (and I don't THINK they think "money grows on trees"), but a lot of their aims seem like they're based on a fairy-tale budget (from a land where wishes make money magically appear out of nothing). Taking just one of their fantasies---a cost-of-living minimum wage. ... WHERE DO THEY THINK THE MONEY COMES FROM!? I think they hear 'the fact that employers--at least when they're newly starting their business-venture--take out HUGE LOANS and--even though the bankers have them sign-over high-valued property in case they can't pay it back--the bankers simply "write" that money into existence!' Oh, the employer usually pays it back, and the employees 'put in the time & effort necessary to EARN the money'; but the DemoSos/SocioDems sort of ignore that. Besides the fact (famously observed by John M. Keynes) that--if the minimum-wage is pulled up--it will make the money itself worth less-&-less (which will be felt by those of us on 'fixed incomes').

The money comes from those who control it now--the top 10% who control 80% of the wealth. The money is there. We had the money to fund a huge tax break for those who control all this money. We're the richest country in the world. A living wage for those who are doing the work to keep the country going is not too much to ask. Don't believe their propaganda.

Well said ! The main problem we have actually in the EU is that the big companies (and I am not even speaking of the GAFA) are paying less and less taxes, and that the money lacking to the states because of that is now collected on the middle-classes who have more and more difficulties to make a living. Trickle-down economics does not work, we need adjustments.

The irony is the vast majority of that 10% wealth are super liberals like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg and Howard Schultz. You don't hear them turning over more money unless forced or opening vast their mansions to house immigrants in need.

@JohnRoberts I personally don't know all of the wealthy you mentioned well enough to classify them, but I certainly would not classify Howard Schultz as 'super liberal'. And Bill Gates turns over a great deal of his money.

If people have more money to spend the economy grows!!! A living wage is good and doesn't hurt anybody!!

Wrong. If people have more money, employers use it as an excuse to charge higher prices. Living on a fixed income, that hurts ME. The cost-of-living AMOUNT is controlled by the price-setters. Keep that low, and then the minimum-wage can stay low.

@db20747 But cost-of-living is not constant! It changes, partially BASED ON wages the seller pays (they pay higher wages, they 'have to' charge higher prices). If they don't charge higher prices, they 'have to' fire some of their current workers and/or hire fewer new workers. (I say 'have to,' because they obviously don't "have to" ... they might enjoy the other sacrifices they would have to make instead (paying themselves LESS, selling some of their nice things, lowering their living-standards, putting more of their personal property up as collateral for loans)).

@mythociate Wages have to be in proportion to the cost of living! Good wages means able to buy lots of things!!!
