I went to Bible Study. It was dark when I came home. I had my purse, and a bag with my Bible in it, and a large travel cup of hot herbal tea. Well, something caught my shoelace as I was stepping up. I crashed and burned. No blood. Spilled tea. Scrape and bruise on my knee and shin. My hand and wrist hurt. I have comfrey salve. It is a traditional remedy for bruises, strains, sprains and the like. It felt good going on. We will have to see if it helps overnight.

Well take care of yourself, there. You probably were carrying too many things and then with the waning light it didn't help matters any. i fell a few weeks ago on our ramp and hit my head on the ice. Thankfully, I had a huge hat on and that protected my head so I didn't get any concussion although I did get a good gooseegg on my noggin that lasted more than a week. I canceled my plans just in case I were to get dizzy later on, but I was fine and worked my shift in the afternoon.

Oh that sounds awful. I think one of the pegs that secures the landscape timbers around the front has come up, and got in my shoe lace. If my hands had been empty, I would have caught myself better.

@MarshaMusselman I am going to take the sledge hammer and pound that steel peg back down and not wear shoes with shoestrings. Take a big bag so it all can be managed with one hand.

@GardenGerty So, in the future you may want to make an additional trip to the car to retrieve what couldn't be fit into one hand just to prevent another similar fall.

As long as I did not move I was okay. Today I have some soreness, but I have put on a knee brace and I will be fine.

I am so sorry, I remember that when my husband wore shoes with shoelaces it happened, he never fell, but there was the danger.

This is the first time that has happened to me. Tied shoes give my feet more support, but the danger is very real for shoe string hazards.

@LadyDuck I did not have them as a kid, my mom did not like them. I wear athletic type shoes most of the time as my arch supports fit in them and stay in place. That helps my knee.

@GardenGerty I think I never wore tied shoes, except the shoes we wore in school to exercise.

That tripping is quite common when one gets old. I slipped the other day and could not get up without help. Take care.

I keep trying to pretend I am not old. Bob would have never heard me or come to check. When I went in and told him he went out and gathered up the things that I had dropped.

Comfrey is great to use on injuries, as long as there is no underlying infection. I want to grow it in my garden next year. I have been giving Bob tea made with comfrey.

@changjiangzhibin89 Yes, and some people do not accept it. I find herbal medicines to be gentler and to do more good in the long run. Things that grow in my yard, some people call weeds, but they help. Do you use a plant called plantain or plantago?

I am clumsier, it seems and heavier so I hit harder. Had a fall in January too. That one may have been a concussion, but I did not have time or opportunity to find out, it happened on a day my husband got sent by ambulance to a hospital for six days. My falls are from stupid things, often.

I bought this from my herbal lady last year, but I will make my own up when this runs out. For a pricing comparison, she charges $12 for a 2 oz. tin, but that is higher than online by a tiny bit. Be sure to put a couple of drops of Vit. E oil for a preservative.

I am amazed at how well things are doing. I have NO discoloration or bruising. I did naproxen at night for two nights and acetaminophen during the day. I walk just fine. There are one or two movements that make me wince, but over all, I am amazed. My herbal lady always talks about using comfrey and I have made comfrey tea for Bob a lot. This was very soothing.

It is an herbal ointment. Comfrey is a plant. My friend makes this salve. You diffuse the herb into olive oil, then blend it with beeswax.
