Day 37
Acts 19:11
Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
Do people know you? Does your reputation precede you wherever you go?
Paul was well known, not only among the people, but also among demons. When confronted by someone they didn’t know, the demons proclaimed their knowledge of Paul and Jesus, and attacked the person who presumed to come against them without the authority to do so. When people learned what happened to the sons of Sceva, they readily accepted the Word of God and Jesus as their Savior.
As Christians, you have power over demons. Your reputation should be well-known among demons so they flee from you.
Matthew 7:21 Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (KJV)
When you do the work, God called you to do, demons will know it and flee from you and nothing will stand in your way. The sons of Sceva didn’t have power over demons because they hadn’t accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord.
Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord? Do people know you belong to Him? Has your reputation as a Christian preceded you even to Satan’s realm?
Let’s pray: Father, let Your Word dwell in me so that demons know it and flee from me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
