Were you afraid of the dark as a child?

I remember when I was a child, the dark was a constant enemy. I hated having to sleep in the dark and I had to be "forced" (in a good way, of course ) by my parents to overcome that problem. Over time, everything was resolving, but I remember that I was very afraid of possible monsters under my bed or that shadows on the wall, haha.

I was afraid of shadows, but I can't say the same about the dark itself. Actually, I didn't like when there was soft light in my room because it would create the dreaded shadows. I didn't fear any monster because the blankets would keep me safe, obviously.

Actually I'm afraid of the dark as an ADULT. I was terrified as a child. My kids both of night lights. My oldest is more afraid than my youngest so he leaves an actual lamp on not just a night light. Oddly enough, despite still being afraid of the dark I cannot sleep with a light in the room. I even cover up the alarm clock so the glowing numbers wont bother me as much.

@WiseGhots Yep. I get creeped out in the dark. I don't like putting my feet on the floor in the dark. I REFUSE to look out an open window in the dark. I won't look in a mirror or blank tv or any other reflective surface in the dark. The adult part of me knows there is nothing there in the dark that isn't there in the light, but still have that primal fear once the lights go out.

I’m still scared of the dark. I don’t mine now but back when I was little very scared and had to have a night light and leave the door open as I got older I got braver with it. Now I sleep in the dark but if my husband is gone I sleep our bathroom light on.

@WiseGhots it’s not funny! I get scared of the dark, being along and then anxiety kicks in when all of those things add up. Then more so when I know I’m home with just kids I can protect them all by myself if something happens. There is 1 of me and 3 of them. I have more anxiety as a parent of my kids and water then I do the dark. I got to do what I have to keep to keep me relax.

@ShyBear88 I said that because it was a real situation that many people face sometimes. I mean, most of us can relate ourselves with them very easy.

I was at one time but it was because of a horror film I watched with my older sister and the thing was under the furniture.

If I remember correctly, not from the darkness, how much of it is 'something' under the bed. And he'll catch my foot if I get to get out of bed

Yeah I guess that the adults were the ones who teased us that is why we developed that fears in ourselves.

Yes, I was pretty afraid of the dark when I was a kid. I had to have a light on, when I went to sleep.

I was a little afraid of the dark as a child. When I was around ten, my bedroom was the only one upstairs. During the daytime, I loved it, but for some reason at night, it seemed very scary, so I usually slept downstairs with my little sister!
