Doing the job right, the first time

We recently hired a home small project contractor.
1. They did more than we originally asked for
2. The quality of the work was exceptional
We've had issues over the years finding a good handyperson to do the jobs we aren't really good at doing.
The handyman presented us with a bill (after doing more than originally agreed upon) for less than the original estimate.
Needless to say, we paid the original estimate.
Have you had an experience like that?
