Still on the subject of avoidance

This morning I took the dogs out for a quick walk or that was my plan. I had breakfast to make, some weeding to do and bake a cake for my son to take for his friends in his previous hospital. I saw this elderly lady coming from the opposite direction and I knew i was stuck. She wished me good morning and then I don't know what hit me.. it was an hour later that I decided enough was enough and bid her good bye. She is one person who can talk for hours on end, but the best part about it is She doesn't need a response from you. Good for me, I can switch off my hearing anytime I want too and get into my imaginary space. I often go to help her as she lives alone. Her train of thought is rather derailed and each minute she switches to a different story, never really coming back to the original one she started with. She is a kind soul and I know she just needs to talk.. so I listen to her. She is one of those people I would love to avoid, but I can't. sometimes she gives me a headache. How about you are there any kind of people you would like to avoid or maybe see very little off?

@andriaperry TRue , its because of her loneliness that I listen but sometimes it doesn't really work for me.

@sofssu Seniors should not rely on others for their comfort. They should be as independent as possible.

Sometimes, we just have to be patient with elderlies like that. Though, I will cut short her stories next time, by telling her that I still have to do this and that.

@kepweng I wouldn't generalize it that way, but I guess frustrations are pretty high.

I have known some like this lady. When I spot them from the distance, I change direction, when I am stuck after a few minutes I look at my wrist watch pretending I have a urgent meeting.

@sofssu May be it's the new moon that affects your dogs behavior.

I am ashamed to say I have crossed the road in order to avoid speaking to someone I know I won't get away from!!

@WorDazza It works both ways. When I avoid her I feel guilty, if I don't I am running late, can't finish my online work and chores at home and I am stressed. You've got to chose one, some days I chose this on rare day I chose to run away.

@sofssu Well ultimately you do have things you need to do and if avoiding this person every now and again reduces your stress then maybe the next time you meet her you will be less stressed and have more time for her.

I try to just think about the fact I will be there someday and it helps me tolerate them. Most are just lonely and need to chat like you say, a lot are left alone because their spouse has passed.

@mom210 That is a fair assessment of the situation. Its true most people are left to fend for themselves after their spouse has passed on and children live abroad. Its really sad.

I have a difficult time turning away from a talker, but they are lonely souls. I listen to them until I can't bear it any longer. lol

@sofssu I understand you find it hard to avoid her. Is there a way you can make an excuse when it gets to you to say you have to leave?

You are a kind person with a beautiful heart. In God's providence, nothing is an accident. Everything-- with His provision of time and space-- we are to do a designed purpose at any given time. Well, this sounds archaic and cliche. But there's truth in it. People I want to avoid sometimes-- most of the time? My kids and hubby. Hahaha! I'm surrounded by them every day and every minute. :-D I guess, that's my 'purpose' in life, heh?

My father sometimes can talk for hours on end. But he needs to be listened.
