The day started early as members of our cooperative began lining up as early as 5 in the morning to get an early bird reward of 200 pesos (US$4.00). The activity opened at 7 am and only then that the queue started moving. Glad I was able to get a reward.
Sometimes the reward does not really matter but it's the feeling of being able to join the bustle. It's a happy feeling to be a member of a group. Isn't it?

I must show up because attendance is required and it's the time they distribute the dividends.

@florelway Makes sense :-) But what does the cooperative do? Sell things?
We have a coop with distribute shares to, but that's more like a normal store and you just get a card and you can transfer your share online.

@Torunn the coop has varied business interests but basically serving our financial needs, and operates like a quasi bank. They offer various loan packages and. also invests in various ventures. Our dividend rate for this year is 8% which is a lot better than putting money in regular banks. We are also given patronage refund, so the more that we avail of loan packages the higher is the amount we get from patronage refund.

Yes it's fun and exciting plus we get to collect our dividend in cash.

What was the reward for? I'm curious.
If the lines are so long already, then there must have been a lot of early birds.
How did they determine the cut-off? It would be so sad if I lined up only to find out later that the cut-off is the person in front of me...

The early bird reward is just an added perk. You fall in line primarily to get your dividend slip and to record your attendance. The dividend slip you will use to collect the dividend you earned from your shares. This year it was at 8%.

Sure happy indeed. Getting a reward should be something to be thankful. We don't get them daily.

Fascinating!
(I have an acquaintance who often woke up two hours before he needed to, in order to get a bargain breakfast (a giant one with almost everything) for $10.

I'm not sure what this co-op does. You mentioned finances and never seen it done in a park like setting. Interesting. I belong to a bike store cooperative.
