Last Night's Dream was Horrifying!

I am glad I can not recall so much of it now. However, I can recall enough to relay a bit of it here. This ended up being longer than I expected, if you want to skip to the horrifying part it starts after the bold letters. I was in a large home, substantial enough and somewhat gothic in it's structure. The time period was different but it wasn't as evident as it can be in other dreams. I was wearing a flowing dress, somewhat restricting and I was not too comfortable. It was dark out and I believe I was carrying a candle. I had been disturbed by some noise coming from downstairs, though I was not yet asleep when it occurred. I made my way down as quietly as I could and could see the menfolk of the house as well as a few of the ladies. I knew one of them to my grandmother, another to my mother. There was heated discussion about me, but I couldn't recall much of it. Then a man, his wife and a child came into the room. I made myself known then. The man conversed with the room but I stayed back, not quite hidden, but not easily spotted amongst the rest. The mood of the room shifted, but almost became more volatile. The man was not well received, and I can't recall why. The woman was pitied, and the child was simply ignored. I moved about, still in the shadows. I made to get away from the gathering, but the man saw me and stopped me. He apologized to me, for what, I am not sure. Sorry this is long, but I seem to be recalling more... (I did recall what he was apologizing to me for in the dream, but I've since forgotten) I didn't speak just nodded and backed away. He made to envelop me in his arms, but I wouldn't allow it. He was called back to the group and I was able to be hidden once again. This is when it gets horrifying I was hidden within the shadows when the commotion began. The wife of the man comes towards me, though she's not aware she's coming towards me at all. She has the child now, but sometimes instead of a child it is a dog. Either way, she throws it to the ground. I scurry to try to save it, to see if it's okay. She takes out a knife and I recoil just in time. I run backwards as she plunges the knife into the dog. At this point it stops being a child. I was on some sort of terrace when she came towards me and so was able to get outside fairly quickly. I am terrified and choose to run down the hill and behind a few houses. I am able to see the house and observe the commotion. I can hear people calling my name and eventually see people making their way down the hill. I run between houses, always keeping an eye on the people coming from the big house. One group seems to go one way, another group the other. No one comes from the middle. I make my way back towards the house, running inside and securing myself in a hidden room. I wake up.

There's a method in the madness, a way to recall the majority of your dreams. It takes practice though. I studied dreams when I was very young, and even I sometimes forget or simply don't recall a dream.

@ScribbledAdNauseum to be honest considering my dreams are nightmares. I hope not to remember them. I hope there are some good dreams that I just want to have over and over but then again it never worked again for me.

@skysnap Have you considered getting a dream catcher? I'm not sure if you believe in the power of those, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Maybe you shouldn't read scary stuff late at night. If I do watch or read something scary before bed, I follow it up with a comedy or something inoccous like theGreat British Baking Show.

@snowy22315 I love that show! I haven't been watching or reading anything scary at night. I do all that during the day now. Right now I'm reading The Remains Of The Day which is about a butler in a grand house. That might have contributed to my dreaming of a grand house, though.

I liked it for the way the house looked, but I wasn't a fan of being nearly stabbed. I wasn't scared until that point, and then I didn't want to be found by any of the household.

Your subconscious is crazy. But did the Dog-Child die?

I am not quite sure. I ran away before I could find out and I woke up before I could see the child again. Yes, my dreams are really wild. The day before that I dreamt that I was trying to traverse a road that had not been completely built. That isn't the first time I've dreamt that. Last night, because I was hungry I guess, I was dreaming that I was trying to find a frozen yogurt shop.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Ah, I can think of better food stores to dream about if hungry!

That was a bad dream. I had a silly dream a few days ago. I dreamed that my fiance was here and he was giving me gifts as part of a board game. He asked me if I could go somewhere with him. I told him I couldn't. He got mad and said he didn't want to play the game anymore. I told him I couldn't because I didn't have a sitter for my cat. Then Lily, my cat changed into a baby and I was telling my mother that she has to change the diaper because I wasn't. Then I woke up.

That is quite a silly dream. I had lots of dreams about babies when I was engaged to be married and then even after we were married. Now all I seem to dream about is roads and other weird things around the robe

Mine can be rather complex. I am glad it didn't get any scarier than that.
