In 167 days I will be semi-retiring. All of my clients know I will be leaving my job. They are all saddened by this, but understand why I am leaving.
I will be working part-time, about 13 hours a week, doing companion/respite work. That will help with the loss of income I will have. Because I am semi-retiring, I will only get partial benefits.
We are close to being able to adopt our granddaughter. Should be within the next two months that we have a court date. We will have to travel 3 hours for court. If we choose to hold the adoption proceedings with our local court it will be months before we get a date. This is due to the docket being so full.
My husband is hell bent on finding a home for us to buy. We have been looking at what is out there on the market. We argue quite a bit over what he deems to be a good place and what I want for a home. I keep telling him that something will come along that will suite all of our needs. I understand why he wants to find something quickly. The home we have is too small for a family of three.
My mother's memory is slipping a bit more. She calls her children not by name, but by son or daughter. The last time I visited with her she cried and said she missed her children. I laughed and asked if I was chopped liver because I was her oldest child. She laughed.
We are also faced with the need to transfer our mother to another nursing home. The one she currently resides in is not giving her proper care. She sits in soaked briefs and her is often a puddle of urine under her wheelchair. She no longer walks, only transfers. She is now insulin dependent and the diet she is served is high in carbs. Her personal care is not the best at all. She often looks disheveled and has body odor too. We bring it to the attention of staff and they do not address the issues. Sick of it.
My car is taking a beating from driving over pothole filled, muddy, and rutted back roads. Can't afford to keep paying for repairs when you don't get compensated for them.
Little Miss is growing like a weed! She will be 4 years-old next month. Time flies. Seems like just yesterday she was turning two!! Soon she will be attending pre-school. Hate to give up the daycare that she has been in for the past 2 years, but the need for her to be with children her own age and get her ready for school is more important.
Hubby got a promotion and with that a pay raise too. So things are looking up for us. I got a pay raise too, but it doesn't amount to much. Even so, I am glad for that gallon of milk and loaf of bread it buys.
Hope all is well for everyone here. I don't drop by often, but will try to do so more as time allows.

I hope you can get that court date soon. I'm sure you'll find a home both of you will love. I imagine you'll need to do it before Little Miss starts school. I remember you talking about her being two and now she'll be four, time does fly.
We have a lot of potholes here too. To help with the cost of road repair, they've added a wheel fee to car registrations.

I hope that we can find something before she begins kindergarten. I really don't want to have to change schools after she has settled in.

I remember when your granddaughter came to stay with you, time really flies.
I am like you, I am sure that there is a home out there that will meet all of your needs.
Its such a seller's market up here currently, nobody can afford to buy something that they are not totally committed to. I hope that home comes up in your area soon.

As soon as a good one comes on the market it goes under contract/pending. Very frustrating. We did find one that we both like, but it sits a little closer to the road than we would like. But it is doable and doesn't need a lot of renovating to suit our needs.

@ElusiveButterfly Here they put signs up before the listing. The sign indicates the date the house/property will go on the market, and people just pounce on it on that date and it usually sells on the same day.

Wow, Little Miss is growing up so fast! I can't believe she approaching 4.
Is there anywhere in this country you can go where the roads don't have potholes? It seems it's a nationwide problem. And speaking of potholes, I just tweeted this about a week ago regarding potholes on a busy road in my city:
"There's a 4-bedroom/3-bath pothole on SW 62nd Street near the Oaks Mall if anyone is looking."
And don't get me started on nursing homes. They are horrible everywhere. Such a shame that we can't take better care of our elderly.
I have roughly 1,065 days until I am eligible to retire. But who's counting? LOL

Just saw a similar meme on Facebook about the potholes. They could swallow up a whole car in some areas.
I could wait until I’m 67 1/2 to fully retire, But I have other plans such as living and having a good time while I still can. My husband is perfectly capable of making a good living and now that he’s getting a pay raise yay.

@moffittjc my boss wouldn't approve if I were to venture off to do something crazy. Hard to find coverage for my clients. Guess they will miss me when I am gone!

@ElusiveButterfly I am glad to you are deciding to live your life and have a good time and not prolong work as long as you can. Even though I have about 3 years until I can retire, I rest easy knowing I can retire in my lower 50s, giving me tons of time to live the good life. And honestly, I'm not really waiting until then to start living, I'm starting to take advantage of life now. Thankfully, I have a boss who supports me when I take off time at work to go on some crazy adventure!

Wow you're still waiting for the completion it's the adoption. Your granddaughter has been with you in the current house already, right? Don't feel forced to move before it all falls into place. I would think it would be good to do before she becomes a teenager. But I don't see why it needs to be asap.
Also, some areas now have it where if you want to make a little extra you can shop for people and make tips. It's there is such a thing, you work when you want which many like.

I have a few clients that have offered me private duty with them. They just want someone to come in and clean for them. I have told them I could do some of the work. However, if it bothers my back, it will not happen.
The move is something that is necessary before I retire. My income will drop by a third and I don't want that to hinder the process.

I hope you can find a house that suits you, it has been years since I looked at property in Vermont. I am sure that little miss will like being with kids her age and these day they really do need to be prepared to attend Kindergarten , not like when I went and we were just expected to stay awake for a few hours lol

The properties within our price range are few and far between. We found one that we both agree upon. Hopefully more will come on the market that will be the "one."
Little Miss does so well at the daycare she is at. But, I really want her to be around children her own age.

It's so good to see you here, although Facebook is nice, too! I love seeing photos of Little Miss. She's adorable and really is growing like a weed.
Best of luck buying a house that fits all your needs. Our younger son was per approved for a mortgage and had a hefty down payment when he went house hunting last year. He was shocked that others offered cash and he lost many houses that way. He was patient, and lucked out getting the house of his dreams when another couple couldn't obtain a mortgage. He swooped in and even offered less than the asking price. The owner by then were in a hurry to move to CA, since he was a surgeon beginning work in a new hospital. So, good things happen to those who wait.
Glad you will be semi-retiring and congrats to your husband.

I really am not as active on Facebook as I once was. Life happens while we are making plans.
We did find home that we both liked. Sent a message to the realtor and hope to view it this week. It is has some flaws and we realize that they need to be fixed and will take care of them if we do get the place.
So looking forward to retiring. Doing respite work will not be as taxing on my back. The lady I will work for is also a relative of mine and we get along great. I can also set my own schedule!

I'm glad they all understand.
It's a shame it takes so long to adopt a kid, especially one that is blood. Hopefully time for that will speed up.
Sorry about the way your mom is.. or isn't.. being taken care of. Hope she's switched soon and the new place takes much better care of her.

Courtney, my greatest fear is that a move would set her back again. Seems change isn't a good thing for people with Alzheimer's. I am going to file a complaint with the state and see if that changes their tune first. If that doesn't work we will have no other choice but to move her.
