Finally, I See Them

Usually I begin noticing Robins in February around here in Kansas. I did not get out and about much, so that may be why I had not seen them.
I did notice them walking up and down the side of the road across the street, yesterday. They have not visited my feeding area though.
Well, this afternoon at least one showed up and bounced around in my herb garden. Now I believe Spring is here.
I have looked up some bird images online and websites that have quite a variety of birds. I could sit and look at them all day.

Nice to see that spring is around the corner after the horrible winter we all went through.

This winter has felt long to me. It is funny @ramapo17 that the birds were nesting in your yard. I guess I do not associate ducks and geese with Florida.

Being I am in Florida for the past 4 years, I cannot complain about the winter weather except for when I went up to the northeast to visit my kids and grandsons. The other day I went outside and there were 3 good size birds nesting in my yard. They looked like ducks. I thought they were trying to lay eggs but when I went to check the next day there was nothing there.

@GardenGerty It has been a very hard year for a lot of us in relation to the bad weather in our nation.

I enjoy seeing how nature works around our property.

I have not studied much about them. I think that would match up with our red cardinals that enjoy the snow.

@GardenGerty Our red robins like the snow, so they do not go further south, but when Spring comes they go back up in the woods in the mountains.

We've had them around for at least a week. But never knew they meant spring until Valerie mentioned it in one of her posts.

I guess different places have different stories and traditions. Yep, robins are supposed to mean spring is here. They have been here a lot since I posted this discussion.

Pardalotes are plentiful here. We have 6 nesting bird houses in our alfresco. And four out in the garden for visiting rosellas and parrots. Back in the country, cockatoos, ravens, black birds, blue wrens, cookabarras, honey-eaters were our visitors. many of them crashed onto our glass windows. But they fell and flew again.

Some of these I am familiar with, others I am not. WE have some that look much like this little one. Cardinals tend to fly into my glass windows. Last year Princess caught one and I had to make her turn the bird loose. It was stunned from the collision.

@GardenGerty My younguns rescue the hatchlings that fall from their cramped nests. They nurture and feed the little chirpees until their wings are developed.

I am hoping someone finally hit the off switch on the cold weather.

Birds are fun to watch. I wait to see the buzzards. When they show I know we should not have any extended periods of freezing weather.

Someone said that here, the eagles leave and the buzzards come back to mark the seasonal change. In the city where I used to live the buzzards all perch under the water tower. My sister enjoys watching the little ones get flight training there.

@GardenGerty We see the eagles year round here. I dont think the buzzards nest here. I think they are already grown from where they wintered. At least I have never seen any little ones.

Sounds delightful. You can watch and sing to them.

Yes, that was popular when I was a small child and my brother is named Robin so I thought it was for him.

Birds are so interesting and relaxing to watch. I always had parakeets in the house, usually 2 at a time. I also use to feed the birds in Pennsylvania and New Jersey when I lived up north. Now I am in Florida and don't have many in my yard. I would have thought I would see more here but I don't. I have seen some cranes and very tall birds in my yard though.

I think of gulls and terns and large water birds when I think of Florida. It will be neat if you see something different.

She says "birds are so beautiful" and looks up into the sky, and gets poop dropped on her. At least that would be my luck.

When I lived in California, I did not pay as much attention. I lived in the San Diego area. I think Robins like some cooler weather.

Cornell has a lot of resources online, too. One year they had people sign up to count species and you got a lot of educational stuff.

I haven't encountered any robins yet, this year, but I haven't been out and about for awhile, either.

And not five minutes later, I see three of 'em (3!) hopping across the neighbor's lawn.
