Day 5 1 Corinthians 5 1 Corinthians 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. 2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 To deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no not to eat. 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? Do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judges. Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person. How much have you compromised your thoughts and actions? Things you wouldn’t consider doing as a child, you embrace as an adult. Paul addressed his letters to Christians. His letter to the church at Corinth is one of rebuke, citing their actions were worse than those of nonbelievers. Being a Christian didn’t give them a license to sin against God, but to hold to the values taught by Jesus Christ. As Christians, many have taken and watered down the Word of God so that it no longer looks like God’s Word. Churches introduced practices that on close inspection look like idol worship, so that those who practice their form of religion are no better than those who openly practice idolatry. Even the children of Israel needed to get rid of their idols before they crossed over into the Promised Land. As Christians, you need to get rid of anything that compromises your relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul gave a list of attitudes that compromise your walk with Jesus Christ. If you have even one of those situations going on in your life, you need to get rid of it, confess it, and purge it from your life. It won’t be easy as Satan will do his best to keep you tethered to your old life. Examine yourself. Be honest with yourself. You know where you compromise and you know what you must do to get rid of that sin in your life. 2 Corinthians 10:2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. You are to cast aside every thought, every action, everything that could compromise your walk as a Christian, and realign yourself with the Word of God, confessing your sin so that God will forgive you. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV) After you confess your sin, then pray the prayer of David and ask God to search you to see if any wickedness remains. Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (KJV) It’s time to take compromise out of the church. It’s time to take it out of your lives. It’s time to take the Word of God seriously and be bold about your faith without apology or compromise. Let’s pray: Father, search me. Show me every area of compromise in my life. Cleanse me of every attitude that comes against You and causes me to look as though I am part of the world ruled by Satan. Purge me. Purge my thoughts and actions. Take every wickedness from me so that I will be faultless before Your throne. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
