Jack The Ripper Identified.

United States

Yeah, I'm sure someone here has already beat me to it. This is news that is two or three days old, but I just got around to reading about it. Apparently they say it's a Polish immigrant by the name of Kominski, he died in 1919 of Gangrene. Apparently there was witness testimony but the witness refused to testify later to it. Some people argue that there is no evidence that the shawl (which they got the DNA from) was found at the crime scene. I don't know, but I can say that I'm not sure this case will ever come to a proper close. Does this case fascinate you?

So identified that this is the first I've heard of it. Obviously the case fascinates those across the pond more than it does the English!!

I wonder if it's because you've heard a lot more of it, or because the Scotland Yard considers it a shameful thing, that they never caught him?

I´m not sure that cases that cold interest me. I would prefer a cold case when you still can catch the killer.

@ScribbledAdNauseum At this time, it is like solving a puzzle. I only hope people spend their time getting the new murderers.

@marguicha I think I've heard that a lot of police forces have officers dedicated to only the cold cases. Then another department is in charge of new cases.

Yes, there is definitely no making Jack The Ripper accountable for his actions. I still think the cases should be solved, and perhaps it offers some solace to the ancestors of the ladies.

I have always had a fascination for the tale... I was even wondering if anyone ever managed to use the idea for a PHD?? One could never get bored with the subject!! (My daughter and I were talking about odd PHDs this morning over breakfast that have been handed out to date!!

It wouldn't surprise me if someone had inspired to get a PHD on the subject. It's certainly a subject that I feel will be talked about for centuries to come.

@nela13 I am in-between. I'd rather like to believe that this Polish guy is the man, but then I don't know either. I think perhaps they should put the case to rest. The people who knew the ladies are long gone, and even the cousins and 2nd cousins are aged.

I dont' think this is the last we will ever hear of this. Too many people with too many different ideas of what happened.

Just another in the long line of assumptions, this time backed by science. It is most likely this man who did it, though there are still those who refute the claim.

@SophiaMorros Most likely, though there has forensics used on other things of earlier years to some success. I refer to a Tudor item, though I can't recall why it was forensically tested.

@ScribbledAdNauseum At this point, I'm sure proving anything absolutely conclusively would be next to impossible.

i had always heard a cop took the shawl off eddowes' body..and kept it. which they wouldn't be allowed to do nowadays.. they must have found a way to enhance the DNA since the original broadcast i'd seen on it-at that time they had said they found nothing viable for testing..

They have been debating about the identity of Jack the Riper for years, maybe this is the right one.

I believe that it probably is, but then it might not be. Seminal fluid was found and traced to him, but then that doesn't necessarily mean.. since they were "ladies of the night"...
