Sad to Say

Princess has had a little more energy, but has not been able to eat. She still has balance problems. Her hair is coming out badly.
At her followup today the vet took some cultures for slides. Princess has cancer.
She has, I believe Bob said, squamous cell carcinoma, behind her left ear.
She is in such poor shape that she would not survive surgery if we were to try it.
Her quality of life has gone down hill very fast. It is making us so sad to say goodbye.

It is hitting kind of hard. She does not seem to be in pain, though. Just really tired.

@marguicha She mostly is just thirsty, and we are feeding her really good things.

@GardenGerty You're welcome, and I'm so sorry. :( Losing a pet is very hard. I hope you'll both be okay.

So were we. I know it goes with old age. Today she seems a little better than yesterday, we will just play it by ear.

This is going to be hard. If her quality of life gets bad, we will have her put to sleep. Today she is a little stronger. The vet gave her some medicine to help her appetite.

Hers is inside her ear. Her age is advanced and her health is too poor. I am giving her some of the same herbal teas that helped Bob, some that are supposed to help cancer. We are feeding her strictly home made foods that she likes, but it is evidently affecting her jaw on that side. I also think it has damaged her vision. She may surprise us, though.

We are keeping her comfortable. I am also using just a splash of healing herbal tea in her water now. The vet gave us some good handouts about this type of cancer in animals.

When we got the infection and inflammation taken down, she does not seem to be in pain. Hubby is having a hard time letting go, me too. The vet says we will keep her comfortable.Today she is tasting a little more food.

@LadyDuck She actually seems stronger now than she did two days ago. Most nights she still gets up on the bed to check on hubby Bob.

@GardenGerty I cried two days when my neighbor had to put down their cat Willy. He had cancer, he was unwell and they did not want to make him suffer. He came to visit me the day he was able to walk a bit, that broke my heart.

Hubby is having a terrible time of it, but wants to do what he can for her and not put her to sleep just yet. She went out in the sunshine yesterday for the first time in a week or so.

She is not in pain since we took care of the infection. She is enjoying some of her favorite things here. I will insist we put her to sleep if she worsens or cannot get around.

@GardenGerty I'm glad you'll do that. I hate to see people keeping pets alive no matter what. Some care more about their own feelings than their poor old pet being in pain. Putting an ill pet to sleep is the last kind act you can do for it.

@JudyEv She does not seem to be in pain. I am giving her some herbal teas that are healing in her water dish. We are giving her baby food and ground up people food.
