Back into town this week for a wander and being a culture vulture. First visit was to the Handel /Hendrix museum on Brook St. The tour starts off in the Handel house, which has incredibly creaky floorboards and they aren't quiet about it, either. I like harpsichords and there were two in the building, with one being played by a chap from the Royal Academy. It is only when I see a harpsichord that I remember all the questions I have about them, so I was able to take five minutes of his time and gain a little understanding of the musical beasties. Then into the Hendrix flat. There was a display room of his life and times, and a case with one of his jackets, that I seem to recognise. The main room of the flat is decorated as it was in 1969. Sadly the only original item is the mirror, to the right of the photograph. The flat was mostly furnished from John Lewis on Oxford St. The bedspread was specially woven, while all over items are copies. This doesn't stop people lifting smaller items to take home. One person took a pair of boots, leaving his own shoes behind. His shoes were a couple of sizes bigger than the boots, so he crammed his feet into the smaller boots and walked away in them. Sounds a bit painful. Finally, when I was younger I used to have a BOAC bag - the height of fashion in the 60s!

I would like to visit. I have been many places where a notable lived and there's nothing original remaining.

Too true, So many places and nowadays the only real artifacts tend to be really old, while the more modern ones seem to get thrown away

It's always nice to visit such places, but I find it deplorable when people steal such items. We visited the Catacombs in Paris on one of our visits, and someone was stopped at the exit for trying to steal a skull!

@Ronrybs . Obviously, the skull they stole still had some brains left in it.

There are some very light fingered people about, but why on earth would you want to steal a skull. Its not as if they don't already own one!

It appears that the piano doesn't have as many keys as today's one.I guess it was the embryo of today's piano.

In the picture is a harpsichord, the layout is a bit different from a piano, but I am a long way short of being an expert on them!

Out of season, but it does show the Heathrow and BOAC I remember as a youngster in the 60s. And it shows that beautiful aircraft, the VC10

I have to say that I don't think I have any of his records or single tracks. I do catch on one of the oldies stations
