I was looking through a diary that I kept while we were in Manitoba and I had completely forgotten about the plant that we found planted in one corner of the garden! It was gorgeous, but I couldn't get it to give me the seeds that it was supposed to (that popped)!!! Yeah... the seeds would actually pop if you put them into a hot pan!! I'm wondering if it was just too cold there in Manitoba?? I finally gave up!!
I had no idea what kind of plant it was, but I'm so glad that I looked it up!
Apparently it is from a very old family of plants that have been around since the Aztecs and have been used to make porridge of some sort!!
So, I'm going to find a spot somewhere on the property to see if I have any luck here??
How to harvest seeds from a giant 10ft tall amaranth and a little bit of garden clean up. Amaranth is a miracle food!!!

Maybe that explains why I couldn't get any seeds when I tried harvesting it! It certainly looked like the same plant!!

@Hate2Iron They all look very similar, may be it was not the good variety for the seeds.

If I can find a spot to plant something I would love to. That's the problem... finding a spot that hasn't been taken!!

We have them here. I didn't know about the seeds popping.
