Things I Found in the Woods

I enjoy walking in the woods. Over the years, I have found many strange and wondrous things while exploring different woods. Here are some of them. The spookiest was a long bone from some unknown creature. It was broken and at least four feet long. A cluster of balloons sent by school children in Canada. I found them on a trail in western NY state. A bone fell out of a pine tree as I was standing there. It was from a small animal or bird. The skeleton of a small animal swinging in a tree. Its foot was still jammed into a vee shape in a branch. The saddest was a wolf drowned in a deep hole. I will never forget that awful feeling. A mummified cat. How and why? I don't know. On a happier note, I found a nest full of baby bunnies and once an Indian necklace made with beads on a leather string and a horseshoe just sitting in the trees. Have you ever found unusual things in the woods or when you were walking anywhere?

It has been a long that I've done. Most of the time, I had seen some wild strawberries there.

@akalinus We do eat them. It is seldom to see them in the mountain. We can only do this when hiking activity with others here.

@Shavkat We had berries growing everywhere around our place when the kids were young. It was always a contest to see who would find the first ripe berry.

The weirdest thing I ever found in the woods was a fish..a big carp or something..when there was no water around. I have no idea where that thing came from..but my dog really enjoyed rolling on it!

@akalinus I have no idea..There was a creek nearby, but it was polluted..never saw a fish in it..The lake was a few miles..Some animal must have been carrying it and dropped it..Or maybe someone was going to cook it..I have no idea, but even as a young kid, I was flabbergasted to see it there.

@snowy22315 If there was a lake nearby, it would not be surprising but this is beyond eerie. I have never seen a fish in the woods.

I do enjoy walking in the woods and nature. We don't have a whole lot around here, but we do have some parks that are wooded areas. They are really awesome.

A musket ball? That's really unusual. I found an old bottle sitting under an apple tree once. It was really old.

when I lived in the suburbs of Latvia there were many places to walk in the woods. I was always wonderful to wander about as if the world was far away. In time we stumbled upon a grave a real small grave with a cross. Never found out why or who.

@akalinus no because it looked so old that we just left it alone. Perhaps someone still came there for the memories.

@RasmaSandra It just seems suspicious to find a grave in the woods. It is like someone has something to hide.

That is interesting. It could be a pet. It could be a baby. Did you inform the police about it?

I enjoyed your post about the odd things you've found. It's been a long time since I walked in the woods. I can't remember finding anything weird, but one time I found a meadow in the middle of the woods, with many different colored wild flowers. It was so beautiful!

@resukill22 We used to have deers grazing in our driveway. There were bunnies too. We had a possum living in a broom closet. Once, I saw a huge bird fly out of a tree. It was the biggest bird I ever saw. I never saw it again, though.

@akalinus It might be a village kid. They hunt birds with catapult.I don't know how he left it there.I have seen hyaena in there. They fear human beings. The villagers near the jungle say that there are 5-6 hyaenas in the jungle.

@mrki444 I only eat mushrooms from the store. It is hard to tell which are poisonous. Some poison varieties look like the ones that are good to eat.

Do people hide rocks in the woods? It has been a craze for a while around here. They find rocks and paint them all sorts of ways and then hide them for others to find. They also look for the treasures other people created.

I grew up in the country. I lived in some cities and saw strange things there. I am a country girl at heart and still live in a park but there is a lot of space around. It is crowded in the park but there is a racetrack, an orange grove, a horse pasture, cows I can hear mooing and a donkey braying somewhere. I think you can find things on walks no matter where you live.

Most of the time I don't find anything unusual, but I once found a shoe. I don't know who left it there or what happened to the other shoe.

@akalinus In was in a forest. The shoe didn't look completely new. It looked like someone had worn it. I was surprised to see it. I have found gloves and things like that. That didn't surprise me, because I have often lost one of my gloves. Sometimes they fall out of my pockets.

@Porcospino I asked because people have been disappearing in forests and parks. When they are found, their shoes are missing. Sometimes someone will find the shoe of a missing person.

Someone may be looking for it. I have a question. Was it in like new condition or was it battered by the elements? Was it in a park or forest area?
