Do You Hear That Rumbling?

Good morning all! I hope everyone is well today. I was able to sleep an extra hour last night so I'm feel a little better today than I normally do when I get up. It's strange how an hour can make a difference.
Do any of you live near a train track? We do, actually pretty close to one. Trains go by several times a day. Inside our apartment you can hear the humming and rumbling of the train even before it comes by. As it gets closer, you hear the whistle or horn blowing a couple of times.
When we first moved in, it always caught me by surprise and I didn't know what it was. Now, I rarely even pay any attention to it. When I do, it is really kind of comforting to me. I don't know why. You can hear the train wheels clanking as it goes by. Sometimes it is a different kind of train because when you hear it coming by, it sounds like it is going at top speed. Not sure what kind of train it is as we are not close enough to actually see it pass by.
Fortunately, I sleep with a fan year round so I don't hear the trains if they happen to pass by night. It's a good thing because I am a light sleeper and it would probably wake me up.

We have a set of train tracks that are about 10 miles away from where I live. On most nights, I can't hear anything, but if the wind is blowing just right, I can sometimes hear the train horn. Now what does bother me because it makes so much noise, is that I live right in the flight path of a trauma helicopter that flies back and forth all day and night to the large trauma hospital nearby. No matter how many times I hear that helicopter, I can't ever get used to it, because it is so loud. But I try not to complain, because it is transporting patients who are in need of urgent medical care.

@moffittjc it really does. That's the way we were when we lived near the airport. The only time we would notice was when there was Thunder Over Louisville. Some of the planes in the air show flew over us. We would sit outside all day watching.

@simone10 I grew up near a big international airport, and our house was in the direct takeoff and landing path of those big commercial jets. Anytime friends would come over, they would ask me how I could stand living there with all that noise. And I'd be like, "What noise?" You just get used to it, it almost becomes background noise to you.

I love trains, my dad took us to see the trains anytime we went by them, we would stop and watch. I have never had a house near a train but a few years ago we rented a house next to the QEW ( Canada's huge highway.) It was like living next to a busy train rail. Thankfully the house was sound less inside but if we tried to talk outside we had to yell... I still like to see the trains but haven't stopped to see them in years...

I never tried riding on the ground rail compare to the over pass rail.

For 6 years in Memphis I lived on Park Avenue--the right side of the tracks LOL--right across from the trains--never noticed they were there until someone would mention to me if it bothers me!!
