Shrugging Off the Rescuers
Right smack in the middle of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is regularly visited by typhoons between 8 to 12 times a year. There are a number of stories during one of these typhoons. One such story is about this prayerful guy who refused to leave his house despite the peril of death. As the water climbed up to waiste level, he prayed to the Lord to save him from the dangers of death. Yet the Lord was silent. While praying, he heard a loud shout from a guy who manned a small boat, telling him to abandon his house immediately. But he shrugged him off and told the boatman that he has already prayed to God regarding his rescue.
As the level of the floodwater rose higher almost above the doors and windows of his house, he heard that a speedboat was driving straight to his flooded house, yelling at him to abandon his house. Otherwise he would be dragged by the floods. The guy, once again, just shrugged off the speedboat, telling the rescuer that he has already brought to God his concerns in prayer. Finally, he was alarmed and was afraid to die when he was at the rooftop of his house. “Lord, please help me!”, the poor guy exclaimed. After which an helicopter made its way to rescue him, but he refused to be rescued.
When the protagonist of the story died, he went straight to Jesus at the pearly gate to unload his misgivings toward him. “Why didn’t you rescue me, Lord?” The Lord answered, “I beckoned you to abandon ship three times as a boatman, a speedboat rescuer, and helicopter rapplers, but you did not listen to me.”
