Yesterday was a lazy day. So I thought I might as well do something reflective - I watched "Silence", a film by Martin Scorsese. The story recalled the great persecution of Christians in Japan in the 16th century. It revolved around the work of two Jesuit priests ( Andrew Harfield and Adam Driver) who faced the ultimate test of their faith, as they searched for their missing mentor (Liam Neeson), whom they knew had apostasized, meaning had abandoned his Christian faith and became Buddhist and got married.
The movie is not for fainthearted. Scenes of beheadings, rolling of heads, drowning, crufixion and other forms of torture - recall the bravery and uncompromising faith of the early Christians in Japan. Yesterday was indeed a reflective day for me.
I wonder if I could have the guts to face up to the torturers, given the same situation.

Bishop Robert Baron commented on the movie, saying the Japanese martyrs should be commended for standing up to their faith. The movie ended up with the protagonists apostasizing, stepping on the face of Christ, taking on Japanese name, and were buried in their old age in Buddhist rituals, but the camera showed that the apostasized priests were holding crucifixes, showing that amidst all these they still believed.

I am not interested in watching the movie. I have often wondered what would happen if I face what some Christians have gone through and the answer is that alone I could not do it but with God's help I could. God would have to help a lot!

Sounds interesting but not my kind of movie. I get enough of rolling heads and other things watching my favorite US series CSI
