I’ve seen these online but today I actually saw a take a book leave a book box. They had one at community pool and play should. I had walked my 4 year old from our house to the park by the pool because he wanted to go in the stroller. When we left to come home I saw this box from the back side I was curious about what it could be. We have a lot of nature where we live so some times they put out new animal, plant information or community information. When I pulled up next to it I got all excited and we took 2 books. Little little kid books and I told my son after the weekend we can bring them back and maybe a few of our own books as well.

We have these in most of our parks around our city (I work for our city's parks and recreation department). We are very supportive of things like this, and we also have book vending machines in all our recreation centers. We worked with a local vending company who reconfigured some of their old vending machines and turned them into book vending machines. Really cool idea. And it's free to get a book from the machines, you just make a selection just like you would if you were buying a drink or bag of chips, and out pops the book! The vending company stops by once a month and restocks the book vending machines with new books that are donated by a local Friends of the Library group.

@ShyBear88 I think they are very neat. There's a house in the neighborhood about a block away from my office that house one of those in their front yard, so I guess people from the neighborhood take and leave books as they please.
