Cosmology and Creation

Cosmology, the branch of astronomy that involves the origin of the universe, is something that has fascinated me since childhood. I love watching videos of Michiu Kaku, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawkings as they discuss astrophysics, the theory of relativity, the theory of everything. I think cosmology as a science has the closest affinity to theology. The scientific theory that we live in an ever expanding universe, for instance, tells us that creation is not yet finished, a belief central to our Christian understanding of creation. An expanding universe implies that to this day God is continuing to create. It has implication to how we understand work. The Catechism teaches us that work is participation in the ongoing creation. Work is definitely more than just toil and hard labor. Scripture reveals in Genesis 1:28 that work is a cultural mandate that encourages humans to rule the earth, among others. Creation is definitely ongoing. It has not ended in the 6th day of creation. Every little thing we do every day pushes creation onward closer to the Kingdom of God. Photo credits: Pixabay

Very nice comparison of Science and Theology. I agree with you that we are a work in progress when creation is talked about. I do not believe in those beliefs that creation has stopped already at the Book Genesis. I believe we are continuing to grow and developed as humans and the universe as well continues to grow or expand its limits.

@Junbals Although there is this question that comes in my mind why still create where in our minute selves and out world is still quite big already and exploring the cosmos is out of reach for us humans. What is the purpose of it from expanding further where we humans can only wonder why it needs to go further... Is there a possibility that life exist further beyond?

@rsa101 I heard a story involving former President John F. Kennedy visiting Cape Canaberal. He was greeted by a jolly janitor at the Hallway. President Kennedy asked him casually, "What are you dong here?" The janitor said jovially, "Mr. President, I am helping to put a man on the moon!" My point is, if the good Lord wanted to expand the universe, I want to be involved in that plan. I don't want to be a fence-sitter in this very exciting time.
