I have heard so many definitions of an internet troll so, I thought I would ask. (here is the first definition I heard) A troll, someone that waits on the internet to attack ideas and posts anonymously. I've also heard A Troll a form of cyberbullying.

Trolls are people who seem to get enjoyment and satisfaction from causing mischief and mayhem in online forums by purposely posting annoying and controversial topics in order to get people to rise to the bait. Some are obvious from the moment they appear but others can seem quite pleasant at first until they feel they have an audience. They usually assume an alias and are, effectively, anonymous. The general rule to use when you come across one is "Don't feed the Troll!". Trolls want attention and they love it when people respond innocently and then end up hating them. Try not to respond to anything they do and report them to the forum moderator or admin (if there is one). We have had them occasionally here. One or two have been quite amusing and clearly very intelligent people but, sadly, their 'wit' has turned bad and is malicious rather than mischeivous.

I've actually heard that there have been users banned, although I don't know that they were trolls or just rude. Hard for me to tell the difference honestly. I like your definition, but I have heard others. Trolls wait in specfic forums with the intent of abusing or attacking. Trolls are cyberbullies.

@marlina it is good, but I've heard so many more descriptions.

@owlwings gave a perfect description. I can add that Trolls in the Scandinavian folklore were antisocial, quarrelsome and slow-witted creatures which make life difficult for travelers. It makes sense why the Internet bullies are called Trolls.

@owlwings explained it so perfectly. I don`t feel like they are bullies, just butt holes wanting attention.

If you met one in real life, I suspect that he'd be a rather quiet, not very social person with few friends. Something like a rather creepy Walter Mitty. However, you'd probably never know because all his trollishness is locked up inside and belongs to his alter ego which is only ever online and anonymous.

thanks - I see them at times as cyber bullies, making other people feel back about themselves.

@owlwings ouch, I would probably agree, but that is a stereotype at best.

@DocAndersen I think that when celebrities are 'trolled' as written in the news, then it might not always be the act of trolls, but a common man who disliked the celebrity for any reason.
