Fish fry for two

Sunday afternoon, my husband and I went fishing in our pond, way behind our house.
We didn't take the boat, just fished from the bank. It was such a beautiful Easter Sunday. We caught some Bream and a few White Perch, but sadly no Catfish.
My husband cleaned them and had them today for a late lunch (what we call dinner)...he fried the fish while I fried some corn bread and made stewed potatoes. We really miss the hushpuppies he used to fry, but we like corn bread too.
It was sooooo good! I made a gluten free yellow cake to have later with some fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
Closer to dark, we hope to sit outside in the shack and enjoy a fire in the fire pit.
Now, cleaning up the kitchen after frying fish...ugg! I have to take all the burners off my stove and scrub them, plus sweep the floor from the corn meal that escaped.
But it was totally worth it....there's not much that's tastier than fresh fried fish.

I have a friend in Massachusetts who will only eat fish from a grocery store, but not from our pond! I wonder where she thinks the fish comes from in the grocery store. You just can't beat fresh fish.

@1creekgirl I live near the ocean so my dad brings me freshly caught bluefish and striped bass now and then. My cousin gave me some yellowfin tuna last fall.

@1creekgirl I know it's not quickly done, but I also love to fry fresh fish, white perch is my favorite.

It takes me forever to clean the kitchen, but you're right, it's worth it.

The only way it could have been better was if it had been catfish!

Nothing like some down home Southern Cooking! What satisfaction in cooking and eating what you caught yourself. And think of the money you saved on the fish
Corn bread was a good substitute for the hush puppies. But as much as I like corn bread this Northerner loves hush puppies!!!

I never do fried fish at home. I prefer sea fish to fresh water and I like it baked with butter and crumbs. My husband freshwater fishes but he does catch and release. Though, I do like a good fish and chips lol with malt vinegar.

@1creekgirl You just pour it on the fried fish and if you are having French fries, it is good on them too. It is a very British way to eat fish and chips.

How do you use the vinegar? My husband also makes a good fish stew.
