Northern Mockingbird

I found a nest of eggs in my yard and wasn’t sure what type of eggs they were. Thankfully I quickly identified them as mockingbird eggs. I snapped a few photos and came back inside. They can be very aggressive, especially when they have a nest full of eggs. The Northern Mockingbird is the Tennessee state bird. The scientific name is Mimus polyglottos, translated as “many-tongued mimic.” The name highlights the mockingbird’s ability to mimic not only dozens of other birds’ songs, but also devices such as musical instruments, cell phones and car horns. It is amazing to listen to their sounds, just like other birds and other noises they hear. Have you seen or heard the Mockingbird in your world? Now you know what to look for if they are in your area. More of nature to share with you from my backyard.

Yes and once I knew where they had been hanging out, this bird was saying "you`re stupid" that is what one mental person said all the time.

I believe that as crazy as it sounds. I have heard some weird noises and sounds from these birds.

We get a few around here. Had one that learned to mimic one of my cats. The bird would drive me crazy when I was looking for that cat. Red wing black birds can be pretty aggressive about their nests also.

@CarolDM We dont seem to have too many here. But we had one a couple of years ago that learned to yell like the male guinea fowl. My poor chickens would run for cover because of that rotten bird.

They are something else right! I get tired of the loud noise by the end of the day. Yes I see those as well.

My grandparents used to have a Mockingbird nest in their backyard every summer. My poor grandmother would get attacked every time she went to hang up clothes.

@LindaOHio Yes most of them do if they have eggs in the nest. I am careful when I go out.

Did I get an egg? Absolutely not, you never touch the eggs in a nest, they will not come back to incubate them, only photos.
