De-cluttering Kids' Rooms

As everyone who reads my posts knows, I love working with children. And I also love helping give parents tips on things I've learned along the way. I've definitely helped kids clean up their messes over the years, and also taught them how to be responsible and do it for themselves. In a recent study by The University of Toledo, de-cluttering children’s playrooms boosts cognitive development and creativity. Too much choice, like tons of toys and clutter leaves kids feeling overwhelmed. Limiting the options or amounts of toys and mess results in more creative and imaginative play ideas. One simple idea to de-clutter is to create a playlist of songs that motivate both you and your kids. Put the playlist on and get to work. Let them choose which part of their room they want to work on de-cluttering first. Set out boxes labelled donate, recycle or garbage to help organize the things you know you will not keep. If your children are not old enough to read, you can color-code the boxes so they know what goes in each one. Do you have any spring cleaning tips for kids or adults? Would love to hear them. My mother was very strict with my brother and I. Everything had to be placed back in the boxes and drawers before to go to bed.

That sounds like very good advice. I agree too much is not good. The kids these days become unappreciative also. They think they have to have the very best in everything. This is not the way I wanted my kids to grow up.

@MissNikki That is some great advice. Also makes the kids feel important like they are in charge rather than feeling like a chore and being told what to do. I can't think of anything right now but I love learning stuff like this. I love watching a show called Super Nanny. I have only seen videos on YouTube so not sure if she still does it but she goes to homes and teaches parents how to handle their child / children if they are misbehaving etc. I love to learn about children or just people in general. Like how to understand and handle certain situations.

@MissNikki If it leaves an adult overwhelmed I can imagine how a child would feel. The room in the picture looks very big and clean. That is nice that you want to help kids be responsible.

@MissNikki You are welcome and decluttering for me at home is a process. I still find things I do not want here.

My tip is this one: rotate the toys once in a while, so they get excited again by them,

I often help my children to clear up their room and de clutter it. I have been doing it with them since young age. Now they are in their teens and got it into their habit. And for sure Music does help.
