Great Start to the Day

Have been watching a robin's nest in my backyard, as talked about previously. I slowly walked out to the pine tree this morning and saw the female on the ground looking at me. I stopped and looked up at the nest and there was a baby staring right at me. Hanging out on a limb. I could not believe it. I had my camera, as always. I snapped about 20 photos. The baby sat still the entire time. As soon as I started walking away, it flew to the momma robin. A priceless moment captured. So excited as this rarely happens. You have to be watching all the time to see this moment. The photo is not great, but I was under pressure from the momma of possibly being attacked. Have you ever seen a baby bird fly from the nest? ©CarolDM2019

@mrki444 Some birds will reuse their nests in the spring.

What an exciting moment for you and such a wonderful photo!!!!! Up north I have seen many babies fly to and from their nests. I'm always outside with Doodles when that happens and bear the brunt of screaming mama birds.

@CarolDM It's exciting to see baby birds, and moms of all species should be aggressive to protect their young.

It was, so unexpected. It was like, wow there he is right in front of me. The momma birds can be aggressive as they should be.

How lucky were you? We watched some willy wagtails take their first flight once. They were very wobbly.

I think it as instinct to be still, it is part of their survival.

What a beautiful photo. I have helped a few sparrows who left the nest and landed in my lawn. They can be pretty noisy.
