Yay, so this is the second week my 8 year old has been reading a yellow dot book. This a level 1 reading. She has been struggling since last year to catch up to her classmates. With her having dyslexia it makes reading and spelling hard for her. She has been on a preK level reading. She was as da few weeks back when her brother moved up a blue dot which is two dots above here. She was so happy she came running up the stairs at bed time yelling mommy mommy, I read a yellow dot book today. I told her good for her and she even told me she is reading chapter books. She started getting Toad and Frog from the school library. I’m all for that!

I remember my kids reading those books when they were little, they were always so excited when they would move up to harder reading levels. I was very fortunate that both of my kids took a passion to reading. And I love hearing that your daughter is not letting her dyslexia stand in the way of her learning to read and making progress in accomplishing her goals!

That was one of the goals I put to the teachers when we did her IEP and testing last year for her to not lose that live of reading. I lost it and it took many years for me to find away back to liking reading and to enjoy it again. They all agreed they didn’t want to see her go down that road either.

@ShyBear88 That's awesome that you were proactive and had that conversation with her teachers. So many parents take a lackadaisical approach until things go downhill, and then they jump in and freak out and wonder what went wrong with their kid's progress.

@moffittjc her teacher noticed right away last year that she wasn’t moving up even with one on one and asked if we could when a conference with her and the assistant principal and I said yes. After us three ladies sat down and me telling them of my family history with disabilities and me tell them I could see if that she just losing faith in herself. So I gave them no choice they had to tester and I’m pretty sure they saw I wasn’t going to leave that room without them agreeing. 2 months of fast testing to get her in before the end of the schooled year for this school year. We are getting ready for a second IEP meeting this one is for 3rd grade. Getting ready for next year she has meet her personal goal of this year so we are moving on to a new one.
